This study examined factors influencing career identity and major selection among students in the Department of Liberal Major at a college and suggested strategies for improving departmental operation. Data were collected from 30 students through online surveys and interviews. The survey responses were analyzed using SPSS 27.0, and the interview data were examined to derive key themes. The main findings are: (a) curriculum and course satisfaction were not significant, whereas professor satisfaction positively influenced career identity; (b) factors facilitating major selection included consultations with professors, career exploration, and major-related activities; (c) hindering factors included difficulty adapting to college life, diverse interests, and limited practical training. Effective operation of the department requires stronger individualized career counseling, expanded hands-on opportunities, and efforts to enhance students’ sense of belonging.

본 연구는 자유전공학과에 재학 중인 전문대학 학생들의 경력정체성과 전공선택에 미치는 영향요인을 규 명하고, 보다 효과적인 학과 운영 방안을 제안하기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 전공생 30명을 대상으로 온라인 방식으로 설문조사와 면담을 진행하여 자료를 수집하였다. 설문 응답자료는 SPSS 27.0 프로그램을 사용하여 분석 하고, 면담자료는 연구진이 주요 테마를 도출하는 방식으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과 첫째, 교육과정 및 수업 만족도 는 유의하지 않았으나, 교수 만족도는 학생의 경력정체성에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 전공 선택에 도움이 된 요인으로는 교수와의 상담, 진로 탐색과 전공 탐색 활동이었다. 셋째, 전공선택에 방해가 된 요인으로는 대학생활 적응 문제, 다양한 흥미 분야, 실습 부족이었다. 자유전공학과의 효율적인 운영을 위해서는 개인별 맞춤 진로 상담 을 강화하고, 전공 체험활동 시간 확대와 소속감 강화를 위한 노력이 필요하다.
