The purpose of this study is to explore the meaning of the intercultural communication experiences of college students who participated in liberal arts classes using role-playing in universities where intercultural communication situations between learners continue to occur. In this study learners experienced intercultural communication with other cultures through the process of writing scripts and performing role plays on their own. FGI was conducted on six students who voluntarily participated in liberal arts classes to collect main data, and essay materials, role play scripts produced by students, and class observation journals were used as auxiliary materials. The collected data were analyzed in terms of mutual cultural communication by applying qualitative research methods. As a result of the study, it was found that role-playing classes had a positive effect on college students' knowledge of cultural diversity and intercultural communication and learning intercultural communication skill. In addition, through role-playing experience, it was possible to acknowledge that a mutual cultural attitude of respect and empathy for other cultures as a practical concept is required to foster mutual cultural communication capabilities. It is hoped that this study will serve as a basis for college students who participated in role play classes to grow into practitioners with excellent mutual cultural communication skills to recognize and respect individuals from various cultural backgrounds in the future.

본 연구의 목적은 학습자 간 상호문화적 의사소통 상황이 지속적으로 발생하는 대학교에서 역할극을 활용한 교양수업에 참여한 대학생의 상호문화소통 경험의 의미를 탐 색하는 데 있다. 수업시간에 학습한 공존을 위한 상호문화소통에 대한 지식과 연계하 여 학습자 스스로 대본을 만들고 역할극을 수행하는 과정을 통해 타문화와의 상호문화 소통을 경험할 수 있도록 하였다. 수업에 참여한 수강생 중 5명의 학생을 대상으로 FGI 를 실시하여 주 자료로 수집하였고, 학생들의 에세이 자료, 학생들이 직접 제작한 역할 극 대본, 수업 관찰일지를 보조 자료로 활용하였다. 수집된 자료들은 질적 사례연구방 법을 적용하여 이를 상호문화소통 측면에서 분석하였다. 연구결과, 역할극 활용 수업 이 대학생들의 문화 다양성과 상호문화소통에 대한 지식적 이해와 상호문화소통 기술 을 익히는 데 긍정적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 역할극 경험을 통하여 상 호문화소통 역량 향상을 위해 실천적 개념으로서의 타문화에 대한 존중과 공감의 상호 문화적 태도가 요구된다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구가 역할극 수업에 참여한 대 학생들이 향후 다양한 문화의 배경을 가진 타인을 인정하고 존중할 수 있는 상호문화 소통 능력이 뛰어난 실천가로 성장할 수 있는 기반이 되길 기대한다.
