The purpose of this study is to analyze how the contents of descriptions of ‘Silhak’ in Korean history textbooks have changed from the Independence to the second revised curriculum. Based on the category of Silhak currently used in school history classes, the characteristics of Silhak in all the high school Korean history textbooks were analyzed. Prior to the analysis, the list of high school Korean history textbooks from the syllabus period after the Independence to the second curriculum was confirmed and the descriptions of all passed high school Korean history textbooks were analyzed. In short, the names, achievements, and books of practical scholars were included during syllabus period while the first curriculum focused on the genealogy of Silhak under the influence of Western culture and Qing's archaeology. In the second curriculum, Silhak was described from the contact with the West, its occurrence, and the development. Later it was systematized by dividing it into Industry and agriculture. The monopoly of this interpretation of this system influenced the formalization of the description of Silhak in Korean history textbooks developed in the subsequent curriculum.

이 연구의 목적은 해방 이후부터 제2차 개정 교육과정까지 한국사 교과서 의 실학 서술의 내용이 어떻게 변화해 왔는지를 분석하려는 데 있다. 현재 학교 현장의 역사 수업에서 주로 통용되고 있는 실학의 정의와 범주를 살펴보고, 미군정청기를 포함한 교수요목기부터 제2차 교육과정까지 고 등학교 한국사 교과서에 실학이 어떻게 편제되어 있고, 어떻게 서술되어 가는지 그 특징을 분석하였다. 이를 위해 사전 작업으로 해방 이후부터 제2차 교육과정까지의 고등학교 한국사 교과서의 목록을 교육과정별로 확정하여, 검정을 통과한 모든 고등학교 한국사 교과서의 실학의 서술을 분석하였다. 교수요목기부터 제2차 교육과정까지의 실학 서술의 특징을 간략하게 소개 하면 교수요목기에는 모든 분야의 실학자의 이름과 업적, 저서를 소개하고 있으며 서양 문물의 전래에 상당한 비중을 두고 설명하고 있으며, 제1차 교육 과정은 서양 문물과 청의 고증학의 영향 속에, 이수광-유형원-이익-정약용을 거치는 실학의 계보도에 집중하고 있었다. 제2차 교육과정에서는 서양과의 접촉, 실학의 발생·발전·극성으로 보고 있으며, 국정으로 개발된 (실업계용)『국사』에서는 중농과 중상으로 나누어 체계화하고 있었다. 이러한 국정 체제 의 해석의 독점은 이후 교육과정에서 개발되는 한국사 교과서의 서술을 정형 화하는 데 영향을 끼쳤다.
