This study was conducted on the premise that the Sydney school’s genre concept and pedagogy may be a solution to the situation where international students have difficulty in writing. To this end, it analyzed the Sydney school’s genre concept and examined its genre pedagogy based on previous research on it. In addition, comparatively analyzed ESP and the new rhetorical school’s genre theory and pedagogy and reviewed the status of Sydney school’s genre theory. Finally, it primarily discussed what a theoretical implication the Sydney school’s genre concept and pedagogy can provide to international students in Korea. It has an implication, in that it drew an educational implication that Sydney school’s genre concept and pedagogy can provide to the genre pedagogy for international students, by comparatively analyzing ESP and the new rhetorical school’s genre theory and pedagogy, given the Korean academia in which there have been little studies on Sydney school’s genre concept and pedagogy.

본 연구는 유학생이 글쓰기를 가장 어려워하는 상황에서 시드니 학파의 장르 개념과 장르 교육법이 그 해결책이 될 수 있다는 것을 전제로 논의를 전개하였다. 이를 위해서 시드니 학파의 장르 개념을 분석하고, 시드니 학파의 핵심 연구를 중심으로 검토하였 다. 또한 ESP와 신수사학파의 장르 이론, 교육법과 비교 분석하고 시드니 학파 장르 이 론의 위상을 점검하였다. 마지막으로 시드니 학파의 장르 이론과 교육법이 국내 유학 생에게 제공할 수 있는 교육적 함의를 중심으로 정리하였다. 본 연구는 시드니 학파의 장르 이론이나 교육법 연구가 거의 진행되지 않은 국내 학계 상황을 고려할 때, 시드니 학파의 장르 이론과 장르 교육법을 이론적으로 검토하고, ESP, 신수사학파 장르 이론 과의 비교 분석을 통해서 유학생 장르 교육에 제공할 수 있는 교육적 함의를 도출했다 는 점에서 의의가 있을 것이다.
