In the 5th high school national history textbook, the Goryeo period was described under the recognition that Goryeo was a medieval society that attempted a new realization of confucian political ideology by breaking away from the ancient skeleton system. This is to show that Goryeo was a more developed society in terms of social composition, socioeconomic system, and culture compared to ancient society. The content was emphasized in various places by significantly increasing the length of the narrative compared to the previous one. Above all, rather than emphasizing temporality by comprehensively describing events that occurred in the Goryeo period as before, it was written in such a way that the characteristics of Goryeo society were clearly revealed based on the classification history. In the political history, many explanations have been added to explain the change in the ruling power. Narratives emphasizing the role of the people of the late Goryeo Dynasty were also found in various places. In the case of social history, it was described that status transfer was only partially possible in order to emphasize that Goryeo society was an open society compared to the previous Silla society. In the history of economics, the contents of the land system and the receiving system, such as those of the jeonsigwa, were newly described. In particular, in the 5th round, the description of cultural history increased a lot. However, it is not due to a new topic or activity, but has simply changed to a detailed explanation of previously covered topics. As such, there have been many positive changes in the description of the 5th National Curriculum during the Goryeo Dynasty. However, as the length of the narrative increased, the learning burden of students was increased, and the fact that it was far from cultivating historical thinking skills emphasized in the 5th session is pointed out as a limitation. It is also regrettable that the local history education emphasized in the 5th session was emphasized only in the curriculum and was not clearly revealed in the textbook description.

5차 고등학교 국사 교과서에서 고려시대는 고려가 고대적인 골품 체제를 벗어나 유교 정치 이념의 새로운 구현을 시도했던 중세 사회라는 인식하에 서술되었다. 고려가 고대 사회에 비해 사회 구성의 차원에서나 사회경제 체 제에서 또한 문화 측면에서 한층 발전된 사회였음을 보여주고자 한 것이다. 해당 내용을 이전보다 서술 분량을 대폭 늘려서 곳곳에서 강조하였다. 무엇 보다 이전처럼 고려시대에 있었던 사건을 종합적으로 서술하여 시간성을 강 조하기보다는 분류사를 기준으로 고려 사회의 특징이 잘 드러나도록 서술하 였다. 정치사에서는 호족-문벌귀족-무신-권문세족으로 이어지는 지배세력의 변 화를 설명하기 위해 많은 설명을 추가하였다. 고려 후기 민중들의 역할을 강 조한 서술도 곳곳에서 확인할 수 있었다. 사회사의 경우에는 고려사회가 이 전의 신라사회와 비교하여 개방적인 사회였음을 강조하기 위해 신분이동이 일부지만 가능하였다는 점을 서술하였다. 경제사에서는 이전에 없었던 전시 과와 같은 토지제도와 수취제도 내용을 새롭게 서술하였다. 특히 5차에서 문 화사 서술이 많이 증가하였다. 하지만 새로운 주제나 활동으로 인한 것이 아 니라 단순하게 이전에 다루었던 주제들을 자세하게 설명하는 방식으로 바뀌 었다. 이렇듯 5차 국사과 교육과정 고려시대 서술에서 많은 긍정적인 변화가 있 었다. 그러나 서술 분량이 늘어나면서 오히려 학생들의 학습 부담을 키웠으 며, 5차에서 강조하는 역사적 사고력 함양과는 거리가 있었다는 점이 한계로 지적된다. 또한 5차에서 강조한 향토사 교육이 교육과정에서만 강조되었을 뿐 교과서 서술에는 명확하게 드러나지 않은 것도 아쉬운 부분이다.
