This thesis aims to reveal that Naddings’ caring ethics are based on Levinas-centered ethical relations. From Gilligan to Mayeroff, the advocate of caring ethics, the ethics of caring is understood as an increasing batter based on intimacy or bond. In this view, the arrangement is given to others by the main body, and there is no consideration for the caring relationship. In response, Naddings focuses on the relationship between the carer and the cared-for. It is not the arbitrary judgment or sympathy of carer anymore, but the request of cared-for. The relationship-oriented caring ethics establish the cared-for in an active position, which was only recognized as a passive caring person, in an active position. Naddings’ idea that consideration is initiated by the need for care, and that consideration is done only after the recognition of the cared-for is made, is possible only when she understands Levinas’ view that the ethics of responsibility begin with other. In particular, the true meaning of hospitality to other at the root of Levinas’ responsible ethics is considered essential to further enhancing Naddings’ reputation for consideration.
