A Direction for the Development of Practical Arts Textbook in Elementary school

The purpose of this study was to suggest the directions of new textbook development in elementary practical arts. Research methods of the study were review of the previous studies on the textbook of the practical arts, interview of the actual condition of textbook's utilization, and observation of the practical arts classroom. The result of the reviews, interviews and observation was organized two stories, one was quantitative, another was qualitative approach on the textbook study. The stories revealed three implications for the new textbook development.
First, developing a new practical arts textbook should reflect the philosophy and goal of the subject. Practical arts education emphasized combination minds-on activity with hands-on activity in the problem context. And the goal of practical arts gave weight to acquire problem solving or design capability. Second, a new practical arts textbook should make up direct experience to the students and the materials should be available in the classroom. And third, a new practical arts textbook should include substantial and rich resource or links.
