The aim of this article is to explore the direction and method of liberal arts education in the context of an era called the Fourth Industrial Revolution. As mankind enters into the age of the 4th Industrial Revolution, it faces the positive and negative reality of the advancement of technology. Humans, especially, are destined to pay the price of becoming ‘Homo Deus'. Today, the importance of humanities and its practice is due to the fact that the development of technology has a great influence on human beings, society, and education. When we face the immediate future of making love between humans and humanoid, empathy(ability) is at the root of the question of humanness. It is the key factor and ability to compose interactive ability. Empathy is a factor in the generation of Homo sapiens and it is a contributing factor to the formation of a good history. The humanistic text, such as literature, history, and philosophy, has contributed to the formation of empathy, and it has played a very positive role in human history. The ‘taking-perspective' proposed as a method of sympathetic education will be effective in improving empathy. In order to communicate (interaction) more humanely through empathy, education needs to be faster, wider, more sophisticated, and more organized than technology develops.

이 글에서는 ‘제4차 산업혁명’ 시대로 명명되는 시대의 흐름 속에서 국가와 교육의 대응을살펴보고, 특히 인문 교육이 나가야 할 방향과 방법을 모색해 보고자 하였다. 제4차 산업혁명시대에 접어든 인류는 과학기술의 발전이 갖는 긍정적 부정적 현실에 직면해 있다. 특히 인간은 ‘호모 데우스’가 되어가면서 반드시 대가를 치러야 할 운명이다. 인간과 인간다움을 탐구하는 학문인 인문학과 그 실천이 문제시되는 것은 과학기술의 발달이 인간과 사회 그리고 교육에 주는 영향이 크다는 데에 있다. 인간과 휴머노이드가 사랑을나누는 머지않은 미래 세계를 목전에 두고 있는 오늘날, 인간다움에 대한 질문의 근본에는 공감(능력)이 있다. 그것은 상호 작용 능력을 구성하는 핵심 인자이자 능력이다. 공감은 호모사피엔스가 이룩한 초사회성의 탄생 요인이며, 선한 역사 형성에 기여하는 인자이다. 문학, 역사, 철학 등 인문학적 텍스트는 공감(능력) 형성에 기여해 왔으며, 그것은 인류사에 매우 긍정적인 역할을 해왔다. 이 글에서 제안한 공감 교육의 방법으로서의 관점 취하기는공감 능력을 향상시키는 데에 효과적인 것이 될 것이다. 공감을 통해 인간이 더 인간적으로소통(상호작용)하기 위해서는, 과학기술 발달보다 빠르고, 광범하고, 정교하고, 조직적인 교육이 이루어져야 한다.
