Interjections are universal across languages, but they have received scant attention in the literature to date, due to their multifunctional and polysemic nature. In the process of translating any of these units, the translator is required to identify, evaluate, and take account the context, in order to fulfill the specific functions in the given text. Against this backdrop, this study explores the functions of the interjection oh in a corpus comprised of four English G-rated movies, and it compares their Korean subtitled and dubbed translations. After identifying the functions of this unit in the original English subtitles, and after attempting a classification, the translation strategies used are discussed, focusing on the differences between subtitling and dubbing. The results show that although omission occurred far more often in subtitled translations, the English interjection oh was translated into more diverse corresponding Korean expressions in subtitling, compared to dubbed translations. The study suggests directions for further studies, considering its limitations.
