This paper applies induction to moral education methods. There are various methods to internalize moral norm and to lead moral behavior. The most widely used methods would be compensation and punishment. Compensation and punishment can either be immediate or revealing educational effects. However, the expectation of compensation or the fear of punishment is temporary and causes anxiety, thus revealing its limitations. Thereupon this paper investigates Hoffman's theory of induction. Hoffman analyzed that parental involvement in children is largely divided into 'power assertion', 'love withdrawal', and 'induction'. The power assertion has a rather harmful effect on moral education. And it is hard to find a particular educational effect in the love withdrawal. On the contrary, induction contributed not only to desire to resemble parents but also to internalization of moral norms and activation of empathy ability. By referring to the child's behavioral outcomes and other people's intentions and desires, induction stimulates and activates the emotional tendency. Thereby induction can develop empathy, reasoning, thinking ability and so on. Also induction can be used as an efficient method to lead moral behavior.

본 논문은 귀납추리를 도덕교육방법에 적용한 것이다. 도덕규범을 내면화하고 도덕적인 행동을 이끄는 방법은 다양하다. 가장 널리 활용되었던 방법은 보상과 처벌일것이다. 보상과 처벌은 교육적인 효과가 즉시 발휘될 수도 있고 점차적으로 드러날수도 있다. 그러나 보상에 대한 기대감이나 처벌에 대한 두려움은 일시적이며 불안감을 유발하기에 한계를 드러낸다. 이에 호프만(M. L. Hoffman)이 주장한 귀납추리 방법을 탐구하였다. 호프만은 자녀에게 이루어지는 부모의 개입이 크게 ‘지배력의 행사’, ‘애정의 철회’, ‘귀납추리’로 구분되고 있음을 분석하였다. 지배력의 행사는 도덕교육에 오히려 해로운 영향을 미치고, 애정의 철회는 특별한 교육적 효과를 발견하기 어렵다. 이와 달리귀납추리는 부모를 닮고 싶다는 욕망뿐만 아니라 도덕규범의 내면화와 공감능력의활성화에 기여하였다. 귀납추리는 아이의 행동 결과와 다른 사람들의 의도나 욕망들을 언급하여 공감적 성향을 자극하고 활성화시켜 공감능력을 길러주고, 추론능력과사고력 등을 길러줄 수 있다. 또한 귀납추리는 도덕적인 행동을 이끌 수 있는 효율적인 방법으로 활용될 수 있다.
