The purpose of this study was to verify an influence of multicultural comprehension education programs on elementary school students’ perceptions of multiculture by developing and conducting multicultural comprehension education programs usable for creative activities in elementary school. After this, mean, standard deviation, and t-test were applied using the SPSS WIN 18 for statistical analysis. The results of the pre-test of the experimental group and the comparison group revealed that there was no significant difference in perceptions of multiculture between the two groups. On the contrary, the results of the pro-test found that significant difference was made between the two groups. With respect to sub-categories, there was a statistically significant difference in divisions of ‘ability to live with others,’ 'multicultural sensitivity,' and 'understanding of gender equality' between the two groups, whereas little difference in categories of 'anti-bias awareness' and 'attitudes toward people with disabilities.'

이 연구는 다문화 이해교육 프로그램이 초등학생의 다문화 인식에 미치는 영향과 그 효과를 검증하기 위한 것으로써 다문화 이해교육을 위한 학습 요소를 추출하여 창의적 체험활동 프로그램을 개발․적용한 후 SPSS WIN 18을 이용하여 평균, 표준편차, t검증으로 분석하였다. 프로그램은 ‘배려와 협력’, ‘편견 해소’, ‘다문화 감수성’, ‘양성 평등’, ‘장애 이해’와 같이 5개의 영역으로 구분하여 각 영역별 2차시씩 총 10차시로 개발하여 실험집단에 적용하였다. 사전 검사 결과는 실험 집단과 비교 집단 간에 다문화 인식의 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났고, 사후 검사에서는 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 세부 영역별로는 ‘타인과 더불어 살아가는 능력’과 ‘다문화 감수성’ 및 ‘양성 평등의 이해’ 영역에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타난 반면 ‘반 편견 인식’과 ‘장애인에 대한 태도’ 영역은 두 집단 간에 차이가 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구의 결과로 볼 때 학교 현장에서 모든 학생을 대상으로 다문화 이해교육이 효과적으로 이루어져야 하고, 이를 통하여 일반 학생들이 타인에 대해 편견 없이 배려하고 다문화 감수성을 기를 때 다문화 학생까지 모두 아우르는 능력이 길러질 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다. 또한 다문화 이해교육 영역을 배려와 협력, 편견 해소, 다문화 감수성, 양성 평등, 장애 이해와 더불어 더욱 다양한 영역으로 구분하여 다문화 인식에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 연구가 후속적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.
