The purpose of this study was to analyze perceptions of the in-service and pre-service teachers toward the life science area of practical arts education. The results of this study are analyzed as follows : First, the in-service and pre-service teachers had the highest awareness of plant cultivation and environment beautification(priority 2 whole), but the lowest awareness of animal care(priority 6 whole) in necessary contents in the student's present and future's life in contents of practical arts education. Second, the in-service and pre-service teachers hoped to be minimized contents of the pet care and economic animal care. Third, the in-service and pre-service teachers hoped to be added contents of the urban agriculture, Safe food and, preservation of cultural heritage. Fourth, in-service and pre-service teachers were generally positive for the learning experiences related to agriculture, and the need for teacher training.

이 연구는 실과교과의 생명과학 영역에 대한 인식 정도를 확인하기 위해 초등학교 현직 교사와 교육대학교 재학 중인 예비교사를 대상으로 조사를 실시하였다. 이를 통해서 얻어진 결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같은 결론을 제시할 수 있다. 첫째, 초등 실과교육에서 학생들의 현재와 미래 생활에 가장 필요한 내용으로 ‘식물 가꾸기 및 생활환경 꾸미기’는 필요한 내용으로 선택(전체 2순위)되었지만, ‘동물 돌보기’는 필요한 내용으로 낮게 인식(전체 6순위)하였다. 둘째, 현재 실과교과 생명과학 영역에서 축소되기를 희망하는 내용으로 가장 높은 내용은 애완동물 돌보기와 경제동물 돌보기였다. 셋째, 실과교과 생명과학 영역 외에 추가되기를 희망하는 내용을 질문한 결과, ‘도시농업(옥상 및 베란다 농업), ‘안전한 식량’, ‘전통(농업 및 농촌)문화 보존’ 등에 대한 내용이 높게 나타났다. 넷째, 농업관련 학습경험 및 교사 연수의 필요성에 대해서 교사는 대체적으로 긍정하는 것으로 분석이 되었다.
