The purpose of this study is to diagnose classics education and to show the keyword- central learning model of classics reading as a new dimension for cultivation of humanity. Although classics education is being settled down as a paradigm in general education, this is still characterized by communication training. Classics education and character education share the same educational goals in the value of life terms and in cultivation of humanity terms. Eastern and western classics are undoubtedly a most important treasure house of character education. Classics education for cultivation of humanity that I suggest, is able to help educational practice, that is a convergence zone of classics education and character education. Classics education focused on using of the concept of character keyword is expected to contribute to the expansion of moral judgment and social critical consciousness by case making and case study. Also, learners, who are trained to research on self-relation, social-relation and world-relation based on character keyword, contemplate on the maturity of self from personal and social perspective, communal value of life and coexistence with the people. For the realization of various educational benefits for cultivation of humanity in classics education, previous questions of external conditions of education must first be solved at the same time.

이 논문의 목적은 고전 교육을 진단하고 새로운 차원의 고전교육으로서 인성함양을 위한 키워드 중심의 고전읽기 교육모델을 제시하는 데 있다. 오늘날 고전교육이 교양교육의 새로운 교육패러다임으로 자리 잡고 있는 추세이나 의사소통 교육의 연장으로서의 성격이 강하다. 인성교육과 고전고육은 인간성의 고양이라는 측면, 삶의 가치에 대한 숙고라는 측면에서 교육적 목적을 공유한다. 동서양의 고전은 인성교육의 중요한 보고이다. 필자가 제안하는 인성함양을 위한 고전교육은 인성교육의 중요성과 고전교육의 중요성을 동시에 수렴하는 교육적 실천이 될 수 있다. 특히 인성요 소, 인성키워드 중심의 고전읽기 교육은 사례 만들기, 사례분석, 고전텍스트 관점에서 사례분석이라는 시도를 통해 인성키워드에 대한 학습자의 명증한 인식과 그와 관련된 도덕적 판단 및 사회 비판의식을 확장하는 데 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 또한 인성키워드에 기초해 자기관계, 사회관계, 세계관계를 동시에 탐구하는 훈련을 통해 학습자는 개인적 차원과 사회적 차원의 자아의 성숙과 함께 공동체적 삶의 가치와 공존적 삶의 가능성을 숙고하게 될 것이다. 인성함양을 위한 고전읽기 교육의 다양한 교육적 장점들이 실현되기 위해서는 본문에서 언급된 교육 외적 차원의 선결문제들도 동시에 해결되어야 한다.
