The purpose of this article is to examine the possibility of a new educational model of multicultur- alism expressed between North Korean defector novels in the current literary education of the Republic of Korea in advance in order to culturally integrate two Koreas’ students after the unification of Korea. North Korean defector literature, especially in the literary genre of novel, can be divided into North Korean defectors’ own novels testified by themselves and North Korean defector novels created by South Korean writers. One of the former examples is Kim Yu-kyǒng’s Love Song for Youth, and the latter is Chǒng To-sang’s Wild Rose. Both these literary works are very useful educational materials for students to appreciate the differences and commonalities of two Koreas’ literary identities via multiculturalism. Deeply analyzing two types of North Korean defector novels, this article would like to contribute to develope a new literary educational methodology for cultural integration between Korean people.

본 연구는 한국 현대소설교육의 다문화주의와 관련된 많은 연구들 속에서 탈북자 문제를 중심 소재로 다룬 소설작품의 교육적 의미화에 관한 논의가 거의 없다는 점에 착안하여, 한국 다문화성의 한 부분을 차지하고 있는 탈북자 문제의 문화적 충돌과 사회통합의 문제를 소설작품의 창작적 형상화와 관련하여 풀어감으로써 문화적 통합을 지향해야 하는 현대소설교육에서의 다문화성의 의미화 방식 재구축에 기여하고자 하는 시론(試論)적 성격의 기반 연구이다. 이를 위해 탈북자 자신이 직접 창작한 소설을 한국 작가가 창작한 탈북자 소재 소설과 비교 검토하여 그 차이를 분석하고 다문화적 통합에 기여할 수 있는 방안을 모색해 보았다. 현재의 문학교육과정이 한국 현실의 ‘다문화주의’를 수용하고 지향하는 바에 동의하면서, 탈북자 작가인 김유경의 󰡔청춘연가󰡕를 중심으로 탈북자 창작 소설이 지니는 또다른 ‘다문화성’에 대한 이해를 북한 문학정체성과 관련하여 제안하였고, 한국 작가인 정도상의 󰡔찔레꽃󰡕과 같은 탈북자 소재 소설과 비교하는 방법론을 추가하여, 문화통합적 교육방법론의 구상을 향후 어떻게 진전시켜 나가야 하는지에 대해 소설 내적 분석을 통해 구체적으로 제공하고자 했다. 공통적으로 분석되는 내용 외에 특히 그 차이점 속에서 문화적 통합교육방안으로 진전될 수 있는 가능성을 엿볼 수 있었다. 교과서 내에서 남북한문화의 인식 격차에 대한 소설교육이 어떻게 의미화 되어야 하는지에 대한 구상이 이루어져야 진정으로 구성주의적인 문화통합교육방법론으로 이론화되어 평화를 향한 모색이 구체적으로 진전될 수 있다는 판단하에, 향후 이러한 방안구축의 활성화에 기여하고자 한 시론이었다.
