간호대학생의 영성 관련 교양과목 개설을 위한 자아존중감, 영적안녕 및 정신건강과의 관계에 대한 연구

A Study of relationships among self-esteem, spiritual well-being and mental health to establish spirituality courses for nursing students.

This study aims to grasp the degrees of self-esteem, spiritual well-being and mental health of nursing students and the relationships among them and to thereby explore the curriculum study on spirituality for nursing students. The subject of study was 552 students in department of nursing at colleges. The self-esteem was measured with 4-point scale and 10 questions, and spiritual well-being with 6-point scale and 20 questions and mental health with 5-point scale and 47 questions, and the collected questionnaires were analyzed by using the SAS program. Self-esteem was found to be 29.1 points on average (in the range of 10 through 40 points), and there was a significant difference depending on the economic level and the presence or absence of intention for suicide over the past one year. That is, self-esteem was found to be higher when the economic level is higher and there has been no intention for suicide over the past one year. Spiritual well-being was 73.6 points on average (in the range of 20 through 120 points), and out of it, existential well-being was found to be higher than religious well-being. There was a significant difference depending on the presence or absence of religion, indirect experience on death and presence or absence of intention for suicide over the past one year. That is, it was found to be higher when the subject has a religion, an indirect experience on death and no intention for suicide over the past one year. Mental health was 103.1 points on average (in the range of 0 through 188 points), and was poorer in the order of hostility, depression and obsession. There was a significant difference depending on the grade, economic level and presence or absence of intention for suicide over the past one year. That is, the state of mental health was poorer in the first graders than in the second graders and in low economic level than in medium economic level, and was poorer in the cases where the subject has had the intention for suicide over the past one year. There showed a negative correlation between the score of state of mental health and self-esteem and spiritual well-being, respectively, and there showed a positive correlation between self-esteem and spiritual well-being. On the basis of the above results, it is suggested to conduct a following study that gropes for the concrete plans for enhancement of self-esteem, spiritual well-being and mental health of nursing students and presents the plans for personality education characterized for each occupational cluster through the comparative study with the students with other majors.

본 연구의 목적은 간호대학생의 자아존중감, 영적안녕 및 정신건강 정도와 이들의 상관관계를 분석하여 자아존중감, 영적안녕 및 정신건강 증진을 도모하기 위한 간호대학생의 영성 관련 교양과목을 개설하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위해 일 대학 간호학 전공자 552명을 대상으로 설문조사 방법을 통해 자아존중감 10문항, 영적안녕 20문항, 정신건강 47문항에 답하게 하였고, SAS 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 자아존중감은 평균 29.1점(10-40점 범위)으로, 경제수준이 높을수록, 최근 1년간 자살의도가 없었던 경우에서 높게 나타났다. 영적안녕은 평균 73.6점(20-120점 범위)이며, 종교가 있는 경우, 죽음에 대한 간접경험이 있을 때, 최근 1년간 자살의도가 없었던 경우에서 높게 나타났다. 정신건강은 평균점수 103.1점(0-188점 범위)으로, 1학년이 2학년에 비해, 경제수준이 낮은 경우가 중간인 경우에 비해 정신건강 상태가 불량하였으며, 최근 1년간 자살의도가 있었던 경우에서 정신건강이 불량하였다. 정신건강 상태점수와 자아존중감, 영적안녕 간에는 통계적으로 각각 음의 상관관계를 보였으며, 자아존중감과 영적안녕 간에는 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 이상의 결과를 토대로 간호대학생의 자아존중감, 영적안녕, 정신건강 증진을 위한 향후 방안을 제시하였다.
