This paper attempts to clarify the grammatical meanings of Japanese auxiliary verb [te-miru]. The result of this study is as follows. When {te-miru] has the modality forms, it can be defined as [trial]. And when [te-miru] is indicated as the conditional sentences, it may mean the [confirmation of consequence]. I regard the meanings of [trial] and [confirmation of consequence] as the primary and basic ones. And I proposed to classify the secondary meanings of [te-miru] with [warning supposition], [experience], [elapse], [standpoint] and [moderation].

본 연구의 목적은 일본어 「てみる」의 의미용법을 고찰하는데 있으며, 이를 정리하여 보면 다음과 같다. 「てみる」에 모달리티 형식이 있으면, 시행성을 나타내기 쉽고. 「てみる」가 「てみると」「てみれば」「てみたら」 등과 같이 조건절의 형태로 나타나는 복문구조에서는 결과확인을 나타내기 쉽다. 「てみる」의 기본적이고 1차적인 문법적 의미는 시행성과 결과확인에 있으며, 2차적인 의미특성으로 경고적 가정, 경험, 시간적 경과, 입장, 절제 등을 들 수가 있다.
