This study is to develop the admonitory education program of national memorial days-centered based on the elementary practical arts contents. To realize the humanity cultivation in actual life, this program integrates the meaning of national memorial days into the main contents of practical arts such as ‘understanding of the family and work’, ‘life technology’, ‘life resources and the managing of environment’. The research was developed through four major stages: (1) plan, (2) preparation (3) development, and (4) improvement. The developed program was administered to the eleven classes of the 5th and 6th graders students in S elementary school in Seoul through school announcement, school newspaper and school homepage. The major results of this study were as follows; First, the national holiday-centered admonitory education program focuses on the main contents of practical arts such as ‘understanding of the family and work’, ‘life technology’, ‘life resources and the managing of environment’. Second, as a result of application of the developed admonitory education program through school announcement, school newspaper and school homepage, students get opportunities to reflect themselves and cultivate humanity by writing essay about their practical will. In conclusion, the character education in elementary school can be effective in diverse admonitory education programs focused on whole curriculum including practical arts, not only in the moral education as one subject. Also, to make character education formulate better, various researches that rearrange the admonitory topics dispersed in different subjects should be followed constantly.

이 연구는 교육의 궁극적인 목적이 바른 인성 함양에 있다고 보고, 그 실천하는 매체로서 실생활을 중시하는 초등학교 실과 내용에 기반을 둔 국가기념일 행사 중심의 훈화교육 프로그램을 개발하였다. 실과교육이 ‘생활에의 적용과 실천, 실생활에의 유용성을 중시’하는 교과임에 초점을 맞추고, 실과교육 내용에 근거한 ‘가족과 일의 이해’, ‘생활기술’, ‘생활자원과 환경의 관리’ 영역 중 시사성이 내재되어 있는 내용을 국가적 기념일의 의미와 통합시킨 훈화교육 프로그램을 개발 및 적용하여 학생들에게 바른 인성이 함양될 수 있도록 지도하여 사회적 정체성 확립의 내면화에 기여하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 이 연구의 절차는 기획, 준비, 개발, 개선과 같이 4단계 과정으로 진행하여 국가기념일을 기반으로 한 훈화교육 프로그램을 개발하였으며, 개발된 프로그램 적용은 서울시 S초등학교 5~6학년 11학급 전체를 대상으로 학교방송, 학교통신, 학교홈페이지를 이용하여 훈화교육을 실시하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국가기념일 행사 중심의 훈화교육 프로그램은 가족과 일의 이해, 생활기술 및 생활자원과 환경의 관리 내용을 근거로 하고 있는 초등 실과 내용을 기반으로 한 통합훈화교육 프로그램을 구안하였다. 둘째, 개발된 훈화교육 프로그램을 학교방송, 학교통신, 학교홈페이지를 이용하여 학생들에게 적용한 결과 실천적이면서 반성적 계기를 만들어 주어 바른 인성이 내면화 될 수 있도록 학생들의 실천적 의지에 대한 변화를 글쓰기 활동을 통하여 감지할 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 결과를 종합하여 볼 때, 초등학생의 인성교육은 도덕 교과에만 국한되는 것이 아니라 실과 교과를 포함한 전 교과의 내용을 기반으로 하여 다양한 훈화교육 내용 개발이 가능할 뿐만 아니라 다양한 인성교육을 실시함으로써 전인교육에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다. 그리고 초등학교에 있어 인성교육이 보다 체계적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 각 교과에 분산되어 있는 훈화교육의 각 주제를 재구성하는 연구가 지속적으로 이루어지는 것이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.
