This thesis explains biblical semiotic with Lectio Divina.
The eternal Word became incarnate at a precise period of history, within a clearly defined cultural and social environment.
Anyone who desires to understand the word of God should humbly seek it out there where it has made itself visible and accept to this end the necessary help of human knowledge.
Semiotics criticizes our use of the notion of ‘literal meaning’, at the level of both words and sentences, preferring to see meaning constructed by the narrative images that the language
evokes. Biblical semiotic phenomena, utilizing other senses and involving such notions as space and time, also need to be taken into account.
Saussure begins as a deliberate decentering of a dominant tradition in order to discover what may be missing as a result of the traditional double reduction of vision as the main variable
and metaphor. Greimas’s Structural Semiotics and Biblical Exegesis Greimas headed semiotic–linguistic research. Greimas is at the origin of the semiotic square. Barthes searched the fields
of and , chairing various faculty positions around France, and continuing to produce more full– length studies. He continued to develop his literary criticism, pursuing new ideals of textuality and novelistic neutrality through his works.
Ricoeur attempts to develop a hermeneutical phenomenology of biblical interpretation that takes seriously the metaphorically symbolic language of the Bible while asking if it is true, how we
can tell, and how we can receive it. He enters a dialectic with Bultmann’s hermeneutic. Ricoeur evolves a hermeneutics of Revelation by entering into a dialectic between the concept of
biblical revelation as seen in various types of biblical discourse, and the concept of philosophical reason that engages classical and contemporary philosophy in their own categories. The concept of religious freedom has philosophical respectability only through a hermeneutics of hope based on the eschatology of the kerygma and the resurrection.
Lectio Divina is a method of mediative reading and conversation with God which can be traced back to the early patristic, and continues to be a source of deep spiritual growth for many people throughout the world. It is meant to be a relational encounter with God rather than theological study or exegesis. Traditionally, Lectio Divina as a conversation with God is a private and individual dialogue, which can take place in solitude or silently within a group setting.
Lectio Divina is a way of listening to the texts of scriptures as if we were in conversation with Christ and he were suggesting the topics of conversation. The daily encounter with Christ and
reflection on his word leads beyond mere acquaintanceship to an attitude of friendship, trust and love. Conversation simplifies and gives way to communing, summarizing the Christian
contemplative tradition, put it, “resting in God.”This was the classical meaning of contemplative prayer for the first sixteen centuries.
There are four stages of Lectio Divina:reading, meditation, prayer, contemplation. We do not read the Scriptures for information but for transformation. Information can puff us up giving us a feeling of mastery over things. Transformation brings our lives and the Scriptures into relationship.
There are five stages of integral Biblical education:Opening Prayer, Semiotic Meditation, Sharing Meditation, Closing Prayer.
Integral Bible readers had better ask as follows:Who, where, when, why, how? Is there anything about this passage that puzzles or disturbs you? What in your life needs to
concretely change or be bolstered in light of this passage? What can our community do to respond positively and concretely to the Gospel? What about this passage is good news for you?
