The purpose of this article is to critically examine on learner's point of view the text book 'Ethics and Thoughts', which is one of the optional subject in high school. This article discuss strong and weak point of text book 'Ethics and Thoughts' on the bases of teaching experience with it in high school two years. From the viewpoint of learner-focused education, above all textbook 'Ethics and Thoughts' is lack of detailed material and diverse data. Secondly, it has no process, but only the conclusion of what one should be. Thirdly, it has been pointed out to be a problem that it is arranged by history of thoughts focused on era․person․area. Improvement plan in this text book is to change abridged and abstractive text book into text book with sufficient reason and process. Nextly, this text book should be made from introductive book to affluent reading data, from fragmentary knowledge to wisdom for life. Change the arrangement of the textbook from era․person․area-focused description to issue-focused book. Lastly present text book should be bettered with reasonable process and primary foundation.

7차 교육과정에서 표방하는 교육이념은 학습자 중심의 열린 교육이다. 이를 실현하기 위해서 선택 과목제를 도입하였고, 수준별 교육을 권장함으로써 전반적인 교육의 방향을 학습자를 중심으로 전환하려는 의지를 표명하였다. 그러므로 실제 교육과정의 이념을 구체화시킨 주된 자료이자, 학교교육 전반에 걸쳐 큰 영향력을 행사하고 있는 교과서는 당연히 학습자를 중심으로 그 체제와 내용이 변화되어야 한다. 본 논의의 목적은 고등학교 심화선택 과목 중의 하나인 󰡔��������윤리와 사상󰡕 교과서를 학습자 중심교육의 관점에서 비판적으로 검토하는 것이다. 이를 위해 2년간 학습자 중심 교육의 대표적인 수업방법이라고 볼 수 있는 모둠별 탐구식, 토론식 수업을 하면서 발견한 교과서의 장점과 단점을 경험적 토대를 기초로 논의하고자 한다. 학습자 중심교육의 관점에서 보았을 때, 현행 교과서는 첫째, 구체적이고 다양한 자료가 미비하며, 기초연구가 부족하다. 둘째, 과정(방법)은 없고 당위적 결론만 있는 교과서이다. 셋째 시대․인물․지역 중심의 사상사로 전개되어 있다는 문제점을 가진 것으로 지적되었다. 이에 대한 개선방안으로는 일반적 추상적 자료에서, 이유를 담은 구체적 사례중심의 교과서로 만들어, 개론서의 역할에서 풍부한 읽기 자료로 변화시킬 것, 단편적 지식중심에서 실생활에 지침이 되는 지혜를 담을 것, 교과서의 전개체제를 인물․지역 중심에서 주제중심으로 전환할 것, 설명방식에서는 규범적인 것에서 생각과 참여를 유도하는 교과서일 것, 마지막으로 탄탄한 기초 연구의 중요성 등을 제안한다.
