This paper is to examine the educational value of narrative. Narratives clearly show moral problems. The concrete understanding of life is possible through narratives. Especially narrative asserts that it is familiar with ethical education. Consequently this paper focuses on the shift of educational methods. Narrative can make this possible. Of course this does not mean that all educational methods are uniformed in narratives. Education through narratives is the alternative to identifying life and knowledge. This enables one to reflect his or her existential experience and find its meaning. Ethical class is totally personal education method. Narrative incorporates the ethical area of intelligence, emotion and will. First, narrative is the way to realize one's life. Second, narrative is making the features of human behaviors concrete. Third, narrative can incorporate ethical reason and emotion.

본 글은 이야기가 도덕교육에서 활용되어야 한다는 당위성을 찾고자 하였다. 이야기를 활용한 교육은 그렇게 사소한 것이 아니라 근대 인식론에 대한 비판과 더불어 나타난 진리 추구의 한 방법이다. 학생들의 일상 생활에 근거한 이야기들의 도덕 교육적 함의를 다음과 같이 말할 수 있다. 첫째, 이야기의 위상변화와 그 의미는 학생 자신의 생활세계에 대한 이야기를 학습현장에서 활성화하여야 한다는 점이다. 교과의 당위적 지식명제가 사실은 우리들 생활 세계의 이야기에서 근거하기 때문이다. 둘째, 도덕교육의 지적, 정의적, 의지적 측면의 통합적 접근이 이야기에서 가능할 수 있을 것이다. 셋째, 이야기는 역사적으로 전승하는 삶의 가치를 담고 있다. 이를 도덕교육에서 활용한다면 전통적 가치와 현대적 삶을 자연스럽게 조화시킬 수 있는 대안을 찾을 수 있다. 이는 곧 이야기를 통한 해석학적 이해를 말하는 것이다. 넷째, 학생들 자신이 이야기의 화자로서 도덕적 문제를 말할 수 있을 때 그들 스스로는 학습의 주체이자 삶의 주체가 될 수 있다.
