This study analyzes the semantic and morpho-syntactic characteristics of the Korean complex grammatical expression ‘–는 만큼’ and proposes an instructional model incorporating visualization activities. In Korean language education, greater emphasis has recently been placed on discourse-oriented approaches that enable learners to perform communicative functions in authentic contexts. However, complex grammatical expressions function as unified meaning units, which often makes them difficult for learners to understand and use appropriately. Although ‘-는 만큼’ is typically introduced as expressing degree, it performs multiple discourse functions, including cause or justification, correspondence, evaluation, and the speaker’s stance. Inconsistent explanations in textbooks may further contribute to learner confusion. To address these issues, this study examines the semantic functions and morpho-syntactic constraints of ‘-는 만큼’ and develops a step-by-step instructional model based on Focus on Form and visualization theory. The proposed model aims to promote learners’ integrated understanding and appropriate use of this expression in discourse.

본 연구는 한국어 복합 문법 표현 ‘-는 만큼’의 의미적·형태통사적 특성을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 문 법 표현의 이미지화 활동을 활용한 교육 방안을 제안하는 데 목적이 있다. 최근 한국어 문법 교육은 개별 문법 항목의 형태 중심 설명을 넘어 학습자가 실제 담화 상황에서 의미 기능을 수행할 수 있도록 하는 방향으로 변 화하고 있다. 그러나 복합 문법 표현은 구성 요소의 의미가 단순히 결합된 것이 아니라 하나의 의미 단위로 기 능하기 때문에 학습자들이 사용 맥락을 정확히 이해하는 데 어려움을 겪는다. 특히 ‘-는 만큼’은 정도 의미 뿐 아니라 원인·근거, 상응, 화자의 판단과 태도 표현 등 다양한 담화 기능을 수행하는 표현임에도 불구하고, 교재마다 제시 방식과 설명 범주가 상이하여 학습자의 이해에 혼란을 줄 가능성이 있다. 또한 어미 ‘-는’과 의존명사 ‘만큼’의 통합적 의미 구조를 파악하지 못해 구성 요소를 분리 해석하는 오류가 나타나기도 한다. 이에 본 연구에서는 선행연구를 검토하고 ‘-는 만큼’의 의미 기능과 형태통사적 특성을 분석하였다. 이어 형태초점 교수법(Focus on Form)과 언어 표현의 이미지화 이론을 이론적 기반으로 설정하여, 담화 상황 속에 서 해당 표현의 의미 관계를 시각화하고 인식하도록 하는 단계별 교육 모형을 설계하였다. 본 연구는 복합 문 법 표현을 하나의 의미 단위로 인식하도록 하는 교수 설계를 구체화하였다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 학습자가 ‘-는 만큼’의 담화 기능을 통합적으로 이해하고 실제 의사소통 상황에서 적절히 활용할 수 있는 교육적 시 사점을 제공한다.
