This study examines the necessity of education for understanding overseas Koreans in elementary moral education and proposes practical approaches. Although overseas Koreans are closely connected to their home country, the current elementary moral education curriculum and textbooks provide little direct treatment of this topic. While the 2022 revised Moral Education Curriculum includes elements related to multiculturalism, global citizenship, and human rights, the concept of overseas Koreans is addressed only indirectly. To address this limitation, this study analyzes curriculum-level strategies and suggests textbook-level approaches that link existing units with relevant themes. Through these discussions, the study aims to promote more systematic learning about overseas Koreans in elementary moral education.

본 연구는 초등 도덕과에서 재외동포이해교육의 필요성과 실천 방안 을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 재외동포는 모국과 정치·경제·문화적으로 긴밀히 연결된 구성원이지만, 현행 초등 도덕과 교육과정과 교과서에 서는 이를 직접적으로 다루는 내용이 거의 제시되지 않고 있다. 2022 개정 도덕과 교육과정에는 다문화, 세계시민성, 인권 등 연계 가능한 요소가 포함되어 있으나 재외동포 개념은 간접적으로만 제시된다. 이 에 본 연구는 교육과정 차원에서 성취기준 해설 보완과 성취기준 수정 및 신설 방안을, 교과서 차원에서는 기존 단원과 연계한 제재 및 융합 형 단원 구성을 제안하여 통해 재외동포이해교육을 교육 방안을 모색 하였다.
