This study examines how Street Dance and K-pop Dance have influenced the conceptual formation, identity, and academic status of Practical Dance in Korea. Findings show that Practical Dance has shifted from a leisure and utility- oriented form to a professional and artistic genre since 2015. The aesthetic characteristics of Street Dance improvisation, battles, and cyphers along with its interaction with K-pop Dance, have expanded Practical Dance into a contemporary cultural, artistic, and industrial domain. The international rise of K-Street Dance and the rapid growth of Practical Dance programs in higher education demonstrate Korea’s emergence as a leading nation in establishing Practical Dance as an independent academic field. This study contributes by synthesizing its conceptual transformation and cultural, artistic, and educational values.

본 연구는 실용무용의 개념 형성과 정체성, 그리고 스트릿 댄스와 K-pop 댄스가 실용무용의 학문적 위상 재정 립에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구 결과, 실용무용은 도입 초기의 여가·오락 중심 실용적 무용에서 벗어나, 2015년 이후 전문성과 예술성이 인정되는 예술 장르로 개념적 전환을 이루었음이 확 인되었다. 특히 스트릿 댄스의 즉흥성·배틀·사이퍼와 같은 고유한 미적 요소, 그리고 K-pop 댄스와의 상호작용 은 실용무용이 문화·산업·콘텐츠가 결합한 현대적 예술영역으로 확장되는 계기가 되었다. 또한 K-스트릿 댄스 의 국제적 확산과 실용무용 전공의 대학 확대는 실용무용이 한국에서 독자적 학문 체계를 형성하고 세계적 선 도국가로 자리매김하는 배경이 되었다. 본 연구는 실용무용의 개념변화와 예술적·교육적·문화적 가치를 통합적 으로 정리함으로써, 실용무용을 독립적 학문영역으로 정립하기 위한 이론적 기초를 제공한다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.
