This study explored the role of Korean language teachers in implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the context of Korean language education at universities in South Korea to identify practical strategies for promoting DEI in classroom practice. Focus group interviews were conducted with seven Korean language instructors, and the collected qualitative data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that, although teachers reported limited explicit knowledge, they recognized the importance of addressing learner diversity based on their teaching experience. The participants practiced DEI in various ways, such as by modifying instructional content and assessment methods, and creating inclusive learning environments. However, they also experienced challenges related to limited DEI competence, increased workload, and lack of institutional support. The study’s findings highlight the need for a shared understanding of DEI among teachers, establishment of teacher networks for case-based knowledge sharing, context-sensitive professional development programs, and institutional support systems that recognize and sustain teachers’ DEI-related practices.

본 연구는 국내 대학의 한국어교육 맥락에서 다양성(Diversity), 공정성(Equity), 포용성(Inclusion, 이하 DEI)을 실천하기 위한 교사의 역할을 탐색하고, 이를 촉진하기 위한 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해대학에서 한국어를 강의하는 교사 7인을 대상으로 포커스 그룹 인터뷰(FGI)를 실시하고, 주제분석법을 통해 질적 자료를 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 교사들은 DEI의 개념을 명시적으로 접해 본 경험은 없었으나, 교수 경험을통해 학습자의 다양성을 고려해야 함을 인식하고 있었다. 또한 교육 내용과평가 방식을 조정하고 포용적 학습 환경을 조성하는 등 다양한 방식으로DEI를 실천하고 있었다. 그러나 이러한 실천 과정에서 관련 역량의 부족, 업무적･심리적 부담, 제도적 지원의 한계를 동시에 경험하였다. 이에 본 연구는 한국어교육의 교수･학습 맥락에 적합한 사례 중심의 교사 연수 프로그램과 보상 체계 마련의 필요성을 제언하였다.
