This study analyzes the depiction of "boy soldiers" and "student soldiers" in Korean history textbooks from the 2009 to the 2022 curriculum revisions. Moving beyond a simple analysis of textbook narratives, this research critically examines how political discourses intervene in and shape the construction of historical memory through educational content. The findings reveal that these figures have been framed either as patriotic defenders of the nation or as tragic victims of war, with their portrayals deeply influenced by textbook writing standards, curriculum policies, and shifts in political regimes. During conservative administrations, their memory was mobilized to legitimize national unity and citizen mobilization, while more recent textbooks have increasingly highlighted the personal tragedies and emotional experiences of students. This study ultimately proposes the possibility of reimagining remembrance practices beyond the binary framework of "national defense" and "sacrifice."

이 연구는 2009개정 교육과정부터 2022개정 교육과정에 이르는 한국사 교과서에서 ‘소년병’과 ‘학도병’이 어떻게 서술되었는지를 분석한다. 단순 한 교과서 서술 경향 분석을 넘어, 본 연구는 교과서 서술을 매개로 정치 담론이 역사적 기억에 어떻게 개입하고 작동하는지를 비판적으로 고찰한 다. 분석 결과, 소년병과 학도병은 ‘국가 수호’를 위한 헌신적 주체로 기억 되거나 전쟁의 비극적 ‘희생’자로 구성되었으며, 이 과정은 집필 기준, 교 육과정 정책, 정치 권력의 변동과 밀접히 연관되어 있었다. 특히 보수 정 권기에는 이들에 대한 기억이 국민 동원을 정당화하고 국가를 위한 헌신 을 강조하는 방향으로 구성되었고, 이후 일부 교과서에서는 학생들의 삶 의 파괴, 희생을 드러내는 비극적 서사가 부상하였다. 본 연구는 ‘국가 수 호’와 ‘희생’이라는 이분법적 틀을 넘어서 평화를 지향하며 역사의 논쟁성 과 다양성을 추구할 수 있는 새로운 교과서 방향을 제안하고자 하였다.
