Since the mid-2010s, a distinct new wave of Korean science fiction (SF) closely linked to the era of the feminism popularization has emerged. Korean SF intersects with feminist issues to offer new possibilities to understand reality and to envision potential alternatives to pivotal social issues. The current article examines the trend of speculative thinking experiments that seek to intervene in reality through the concept of endowing future generations with political rights-an imagination that generates a linear concept of time by assuming the continuity of the community through these successor generations. The article also examines how Korean SF-particularly works by Amil, Hwang Mogwa, Cho Si-Hyun, and Kim Choyeop-directly engages with and presents narratives on current gender issues, which are reflective and intervene in current social issues. The works of these authors suggest different alternatives to engage with temporality, such as restoring erased futures (Hwang Mogwa), rejecting the limited futures permitted by the present (Amil), or critically reflecting on how the future is accessible only to a select few. The readers are led to imagine what might be called ‘crip time’-alternative, marginalized futures (Cho Si-hyun, Kim Choyeop). Through this study, we reassert the significance and potential of Korean SF as speculative fiction that actively influences readers to reflect on and to identify ways to intervene in current social issues.

2010년대 중반 이후 뚜렷해진 한국 SF의 새로운 열풍은 페미니즘 대중화와 깊은 연관성을 갖는다. 페미니즘 이슈를 가로지르며 등장한 최근 한국 SF는 현실에 대한 새로운 이해법을 제안하며 현실 문제에 관한 가능한 변화를 꿈꾸게 하는 중이다. 이 글에서는 페미니즘과 젠더 이슈를 다루며 지금 이곳의 문제를 직접적으로 성찰하고 서사화하는 방식으로 거기에 적극적으로 개입해온 최근 한국 SF를 대상으로, 작품이 견지하는 시간 에 대한 인식을 살펴보았다. 정치적 권리를 갖는 후속 세대를 통해 공동체의 지속성이 확보될 수 있다고 여기는 미래 상상과 이로부터 유래하는 선형적 시간성에 현실 개입적 으로 시도하는 사유 실험의 경향성을 검토하였다. 구체적으로는 ‘불구의 시간’이라는 대안적 시간 인식을 제시하는 장애학적 시간관을 빌려, 황모과, 아밀, 조시현, 김초엽의 SF가 지구 온난화로 구체화되고 있기도 한 지금 이곳의 현실에 어떻게 개입하고 있으며 어떤 미래를 상상하는지 살펴보았다. 지워진 미래를 복원하거나(황모과) 지금 이곳이 허용하는 미래를 거부하는 방식으로(아밀), 미래가 자격을 갖춘 존재들에게만 열리는 것임을 비판적으로 성찰하면서 ‘불구의 시간’이라고 할 다른 미래를 상상하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다(조시현, 김초엽). 소수자 및 타자를 둘러싼 문제에 대한 해법으로서 선형적 시간관의 변형과 재편에서 나아가 새로운 시간관을 제안하는 한국 SF를 통해 지금–이곳의 현실을 성찰하고 직접적으로 개입하며 그러한 인식을 서사화하고자 하는 한국 SF의 사변소설로서의 의미와 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.
