This study aims to conduct an in-depth diagnosis of pre-service elementary teachers’ content knowledge of representative values. For this purpose, a descriptive survey, designed to differentiate between conceptual and procedural knowledge and reflect various data contexts, was administered to 98 sophomore students at a university of education in the Seoul metropolitan area. The findings revealed that while the pre-service teachers were proficient in the procedural aspects of calculating representative values, their conceptual understanding remained at the level of memorizing procedural definitions, showing a fragmented knowledge structure. This conceptual vulnerability was particularly evident in atypical situations involving outliers or categorical data. These results suggest a need in pre-service teacher education for the development of educational materials that consider the linkage between school levels, the enhancement of curriculum literacy, and pedagogical strategies that help organically connect conceptual and procedural knowledge.

본 연구는 초등 예비교사의 대푯값에 대한 내용 지식을 심층적으로 진단하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 수도권 교육대학교 2학년 98명을 대상으로, 개념적 지식과 절차적 지식을 구분하고 다양한 데이터 맥락을 반영한 서술형 설문을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 예비교사들은 대푯값 계산의 절차적 측면에는 능숙했으나, 개념적 이해 는 절차적 정의를 암기하는 수준에 머무르는 등 파편화된 지식 구조를 보였다. 특 히 이상치가 포함되거나 범주형 자료를 다루는 비정형적 상황에서 개념적 취약성 이 두드러졌다. 이러한 결과는 예비교사 교육에서 학교급 간 연계성을 고려한 교육 자료 개발, 교육과정 문해력 제고, 그리고 개념적 지식과 절차적 지식의 유기적 연 결을 돕는 교수학적 전략이 필요함을 시사한다.
