Despite the increasing number of foreign residents with diverse cultural backgrounds in Korea, interest in the Muslim community remains low. Furthermore, biased judgments and discriminatory views of Muslims, often encountered through Western news, information, and media, remain prevalent. This study analyzed the impact of a liberal arts course on Islamic culture on the perceptions of students at a university in the Chungcheong region, a region with a high proportion of immigrants. This study involved pre- and post-course surveys of 35 students and in-depth interviews with five participants who volunteered. While the course survey revealed no significant differences in affective and behavioral domains, it revealed significant positive changes in cognitive domains. Participants in the interviews reported that the course helped them recognize their own distorted information and attitudes about Islamic culture. They also reported that the course helped them overcome their preconceived notions about Islamic culture and broadened their perspectives on the culture. In a multicultural society, if universities offer courses on diverse cultures, students, who often encounter Muslim international students and Muslim residents in their school and daily lives, are likely to experience a shift in their perceptions and develop more positive and behavioral openness toward Muslims. Given that this study focused on online courses, further research focusing on face-to-face courses is needed.

우리나라에 다양한 문화적 배경을 가진 외국인 거주자가 증가하고 있지만 무슬림 공 동체에 관한 관심은 낮은 편이다. 또한 서구권의 뉴스와 정보, 미디어를 통해 접한 무 슬림에 대한 가치 판단적 왜곡과 차별적 시각 역시 만연한 상황이다. 이에 본 연구는 이주민의 거주 비율이 높은 충청권 A 대학의 이슬람 문화권 관련 교양 강좌 수강생을 대상으로 이 수강 경험이 이슬람 문화권에 관한 인식변화에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석 하였다. 해당 강좌 수강생 35명을 대상으로 사전-사후 설문조사와 면접조사에 자원한 수강생 5명을 대상으로 심층 면접을 병행한 통합연구를 하였다. 수강생의 설문조사에 서 정의적 영역과 행동적 영역에서는 의미 있는 차이는 발견되지 않았지만, 인지적 영 역에서 유의미한 긍정적 인식 변화가 있었다. 면접조사 결과 수강생은 이슬람 문화권 에 대해 왜곡된 정보와 태도를 지니고 있음을 인지하는 계기가 되었다고 하였다. 또한 수강 후 이슬람 문화적 편견이 해소되었고 문화를 보는 관점이 넓어졌다고 하였다. 다 문화사회에서 대학교에서 다양한 문화권에 관한 강좌가 개설되면 학교생활과 일상생 활에서 무슬림 유학생과 무슬림 거주자를 접할 기회가 많은 대학생에게는 인식의 변화 는 물론 무슬림에 대해 정의적으로나 행동적으로 개방적인 태도를 보이게 될 가능성이 높다. 본 연구의 대상이 온라인 강좌라는 점에서 향후 대면 강좌를 대상으로 추가적인 연구가 필요하다.
