This study investigates the effects of gamification elements on learning outcomes within a metaverse-based learning environment, focusing on the mediating roles of metaverse experience and learner satisfaction. Using a structured survey of 123 university students who participated in metaverse-based courses via the ZEP platform, the study conducted multiple regression and PROCESS macro Model 6 analysis. The results show that gamification significantly and positively influences learning outcomes, and this relationship is significantly mediated by metaverse experience. However, learner satisfaction did not exhibit any significant mediating or direct effect on learning outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of immersive and interactive experiences over emotional satisfaction in achieving effective learning outcomes. The study offers theoretical insights into structural learning engagement and practical guidance for designing gamified metaverse-based education.

본 연구는 메타버스 기반 학습 환경에서 게이미피케이션 요소가 학습성과에 미치는 영향을 규명하고, 이 과정에서 메타버스 경험과 학습 만족도의 매개 역할을 검 토하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 D대학교의 세 개 강의에서 ZEP 플랫폼을 활용한 메타버스 학습 공간을 설계하고, 다양한 게이미피케이션 요소를 통합한 수업을 운 영한 후 총 123부의 유효 설문을 수집하였다. 실증 분석 결과, 게이미피케이션은 학습성과에 유의한 정(+)의 직접 효과를 보였으며, 특히 메타버스 경험이 이 관계를 유의미하게 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 학습 만족도는 학습성과에 대해 직접 효과나 매개효과 모두 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 단순한 정서적 반응보다 학습자의 실재감을 통한 인지적 몰입과 상호작용 중심의 경험이 학습성과에 핵심적인 영향을 미친다는 점을 시사한다. 본 연구는 메타버스 학습 설계에서 몰입 경험을 강화하는 게이미피케이션 전략의 중요성을 강조하며, 향후 교육 콘텐츠 개발 및 플랫폼 설계에 실질적인 가이드라인을 제공한다. 나아가 단편적인 변수 간 관계 검증을 넘어, 인지적·정서적 매개 경로를 구조화하고 분석함으로써 메타버스 기반 게이미피케이션 학습 환경에 대한 이론적 이해를 한층 심화시켰다.
