Generalizing figural patterns is a valuable tool for promoting functional thinking. In particular, the types of prompts and the sequence of steps in figural pattern tasks play a key role in guiding and supporting students’ generalization processes. However, detailed analyses of such tasks in mathematics textbooks remain insufficient. This study analyzed the phase structure and instructional strategies of figural pattern tasks presented in the Patterns and Correspondence unit of fifth-grade authorized mathematics textbooks in Korea. The analysis focused on how the tasks were structured across phases and what teaching strategies were employed. The results showed that most figural pattern tasks followed a two-phase structure, consisting of Analyse the nature of the relationship and Generalize. In Analyse the nature of the relationship, using correspondence tables was the most frequently employed strategy, whereas in Generalize, verbal explanation was the most common strategy, indicating a strong reliance on particular instructional approaches. Based on these findings, the study discusses implications for improving the design of figural pattern generalization tasks in mathematics textbooks.

도형 패턴의 일반화는 학생의 함수적 사고를 신장시키는 데 효과적인 맥락을 제공 한다. 특히 도형 패턴 일반화 과제의 발문 유형과 전개 순서는 학생의 일반화 과정 을 유도하고 지원하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 그러나 교과서에 제시된 도형 패턴 의 일반화 과제의 발문 유형과 구성에 대한 구체적인 분석은 부족한 실정이었다. 이에 본 연구는 초등학교 5학년 수학 검정 교과서의 ‘규칙과 대응’ 단원에 수록 된 도형 패턴 일반화 과제의 단계별 구성과 지도 전략을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 대부분의 도형 패턴 일반화 과제는 ‘관계의 특성 분석하기’와 ‘일반화하기’의 두 단계로 구성되었으며, 지도 전략 또한 전자의 단계에서는 ‘대응표 사용’, 후 자의 단계에서는 ‘언어적 설명’에 편중된 경향을 보였다. 분석 결과를 토대로 향 후 교과서의 도형 패턴 일반화 과제 구성에 대한 교육적 시사점을 제언하였다.
