This study empirically examines the impact of AI-based smart learning environments on English language learning, focusing on how the characteristics of such environments influence learners’ perceived usefulness and satisfaction, which in turn affect academic achievement. Specifically, the study investigates how the key features of AI learning environments-convenience, interactivity, and self-directed learning-affect learners' experiences and outcomes. A survey was conducted among university students in Korea, and the collected data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) to test the relationships among AI learning environment characteristics, perceived usefulness, satisfaction, and academic achievement. The results show that, first, the characteristics of AI-based English learning environments have a significant effect on learners’ perceived usefulness, indicating that learners recognize these environments as efficient and effective learning tools. Second, these characteristics also have a meaningful impact on learner satisfaction, particularly by enhancing learners’ ability to control and regulate their own learning processes, thereby increasing engagement and motivation. Third, both perceived usefulness and satisfaction serve as significant mediating variables, demonstrating the indirect pathway through which the features of AI learning environments influence English learning outcomes. These findings suggest that learners’ perceptions and experiences play a critical role in enhancing learning outcomes in AI-based English education. Therefore, it is essential for educational technology developers and institutions to design learner-centered systems that prioritize not only technological innovation but also user experience. This study provides empirical evidence for the effective use of AI in digital education and offers practical implications for the development of English education policies and programs in the era of rapid technological advancement.

본 연구는 AI 기반의 스마트 러닝 환경이 학습성과에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하고, 학습자의 지각된 유용성과 만족도를 매개로 하여 이러한 환경이 학업 성과에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 규명하고자 하였다. 구체적으로, AI 러닝 환경의 주요 특성인 편리성, 상호작용성, 자기주도학습 요소가 학습자의 학습성과에 영향 을 미치는지를 중심으로 연구문제를 설정하였다. 연구 방법으로는 국내 대학생을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 수집된 데이터를 바탕으로 구조방정식모형 (SEM)을 활용한 통계 분석을 수행하였다. 이를 통해 AI 러닝 환경 특성과 지각된 유용성, 만족도, 학업성과 간의 인과관계를 검증하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, AI 기반 영어학습 환경의 특성은 학습자의 지각된 유용성에 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며, 이는 학습자들이 해당 환경을 효율적이고 효과적으로 인식하고 있음을 보여준다. 둘 째, 이러한 특성들은 학습자의 만족도에도 유의미한 영향을 미쳤으며, 특히 자율적인 학습 조절 능력을 강화함으로써 학습자의 몰입도와 참여도를 높이는 데 기여 함을 확인하였다. 셋째, 지각된 유용성과 만족도는 모두 영어학습 성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 매개 요인으로 작용함으로써, AI 러닝 환경과 학습성과 간의 간접 적인 경로를 입증하였다. 이러한 결과는 AI 기반 영어교육에서 학습자의 경험과 인식이 학습 성과 향상에 핵심적인 역할을 한다는 사실을 시사하며, 교육 기술 개발 자 및 교육기관은 기술적 기능 외에도 사용자 중심의 설계와 학습자 친화적 요소를 고려한 시스템 구축이 중요함을 강조한다. 본 연구는 급변하는 디지털 교육 환 경 속에서 AI 기술을 효과적으로 활용하기 위한 실증적 근거를 제공함으로써, 향후 영어교육 정책 및 프로그램 설계에 실질적인 시사점을 제공한다.
