This study examines the current status of preservice teachers’ metacognition in the midst of social changes in which metacognition is emphasized, and examines matters to be considered for the improvement of metacognitive ability. A survey was conducted on 213 preservice teachers to analyze the current status of metacognition. As a result of the survey, it was found that 47.6% of the respondents had no experience in metacognitive education, confirming the need for metacognitive education for preservice teachers. In addition, as a result of examining the current status of preservice teachers’ metacognition by dividing the sub-areas of metacognition into five categories such as 'metacognitive knowledge', 'metacognitive skills', 'monitoring', 'self-regulation' and 'metacognitive experience', differences in response distribution for each sub-area and differences according to the gender were found. Considering the fact that the sub-areas and levels of metacognition can vary, educational programs should be prepared and operated so that preservice teachers can develop various metacognitive abilities and reach higher metacognitive levels.

본 연구는 메타인지가 중시되고 있는 사회 변화 속에서 예비교사들의 메타인지 실태를 살펴보고, 메타인지 능 력 신장을 위해 고려해야할 사항들을 살펴보았다. 메타인지 실태를 분석하기 위하여 213명의 예비교사들을 대상 으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 조사 결과, 메타인지와 관련된 교육을 받은 경험이 없다는 응답이 47.6%로 밝혀져 예비교사를 대상으로 한 메타인지 교육이 필요하다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 메타인지의 세부 영역을 ‘메타인지 지식’, ‘메타인지 기술’, ‘모니터링’, ‘자기규제’, ‘메타인지 경험’과 같은 5가지로 나누어 예비교사들의 메 타인지 실태를 살펴본 결과, 각 세부 영역에 대한 응답 분포의 차이와 예비교사의 성에 따른 차이가 발견되었다. 메타인지의 세부 영역들과 수준이 다양할 수 있다는 사실을 고려할 때, 예비교사들이 다양한 메타인지 능력을 신장하며, 상위의 메타인지 수준에 다다를 수 있도록 교육 프로그램을 마련하고 운영해야 한다.
