디지털 배지는 장기적으로 초등교육과정 내에서 학생들의 평가와 역량이나 기술․지식․학습 성취에 대한 자유로운 표현과 공유의 기능을 발휘할 수 있으며 자격 증명이나 객관적 인증이 가능함은 물론 다양한 교육적 기능과 이점을 가진다. 또한 코로나19 확산으로 인하여 급격히 비대면․대면 수업 융합 플랫폼으로의 전환이 이뤄지고 있는 초등교육 현장에서 디지털 배지를 바탕으로 한 온라인 학습 인증제도를 도입하는 것은 기존의 평가와 자격 증명을 대체하고 역량 기반 성취를 가능케 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 디지털 배지의 개념과 현황에 대한 선행 연구를 분석하고 교육용 디지털 배지의 필요성을 도출한 후, 국내외에서 교육적으로 활용 되고 있는 다양한 디지털 배지들의 디자인적 요소의 공통점 분석과 초등교육과정 중 5학년 2학기 수학 교과의 교육 내용 및 성취기준을 바탕으로 Open Badges의 체계와 Digitalme에서 제공하는 배지의 규격 양식을 참고 하여 배지 발행자인 초등학교의 입장에서 초등교육과정에 적용하기 위한 교육용 디지털 배지를 설계하였다.
