The purpose of this study is to explore the possibilities of new creation by using manual work and Generative AI to apply Robert Motherwell's ‘Automatism’ formability to fashion illustration. The research method was based on ‘Generative AI fashion’ and conducted a theoretical study on the formability and Generative AI of Automatism through dissertations, academic journals, and websites, and conducted four sets of work research using the two creative methods. As a result, it was confirmed that fashion illustration is an artistic medium that can converge and expand genres beyond the means of expression. In addition, manual work is effective in realizing the creator’s intuition and emotions as images, and Generative AI is provided as a source of inspiration through algorithms, showing the expandability and diversity of expressions. It was found that when the two creative methods interact with each other, it is possible to realize complete creations. This study is of academic and practical significance in re-examining the perception and role of creative methods in the era of convergence and exploring the newly realized creative topography in interaction

본 연구는 로버트 마더웰의 ‘오토마티즘’ 조형성을 패션 일러스트레이션에 응용하고, 그 과정을 수작업과 생성형 AI를 활용한 창작물로 구현함으로써 예술성과 기술성이 결합된 새로운 창작의 가능성을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구방법은 이론 및 작품연구로 전개된 다. ‘생성형 AI 패션’을 중심어로 학위논문, 학술지, 웹 사이트를 통해 ‘오토마티즘’의 조형적 특징과 생성형 AI에 관해 살펴보았고, 이를 토대로 수작업과 생성형 AI (미드저니)를 활용한 총 4세트의 작품연구를 진행했 다. 연구 결과, 오토마티즘의 조형성을 패션 일러스트 레이션에 응용함으로써 패션 표현의 수단을 넘어, 표현 방식 간 융합과 시각언어의 확장이 가능한 예술 매체임 을 확인했다. 또한, 수작업에 의한 창작은 직관적 해석 과 손맛, 감정이 반영되므로 창작자의 미감과 개성을 패션 이미지로 구현하는 데 효과적이었다. 한편 AI로 생성된 이미지는 창작자의 의도와 판단, 알고리즘의 조 합을 통해 원본 이미지를 재해석했고, 예상치 못한 결 과도 영감의 원천으로 제공돼 표현의 확장성과 다양성 을 나타냈다. 상반된 두 영역의 창작 방식은 각각 차이 를 지니지만, 창작자의 직관적 감성과 의도, AI의 생성 능력이 상호작용 될 때 더욱 완성도 있는 창작물 구현 이 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구는 수작업과 생성형 AI에 의한 창작물 구현을 시도해봄으로써 융복합 시대 의 창작 방법에 대한 새로운 인식 그리고 예술 창작의 주체로서 인간과 생성형 AI의 역할을 재조명했고, 그 상호작용 속에서 새롭게 구현되는 창작 지형을 탐색한 데에 학술적, 실천적 의의가 있다.
