This study aimed to explore in depth the burnout experiences of elementary school teachers caused by parental complaints and to identify supportive measures. Twenty elementary school teachers who had experienced burnout caused by such complaints participated in the study. Using the photovoice method, the study collected and analyzed photographs and accompanying narratives from the participants. The findings revealed four major themes: “Facing Sudden Complaints,” “Pausing Under Emotional Strain,” “Rising Above the Wounds,” and “Continuing Life as an Elementary School Teacher.” Parental complaints led to psychological stress and emotional exhaustion among teachers, which in turn reduced their efficacy, lowered the quality of education, and even caused some to consider leaving the profession. Although teachers attempted personal coping strategies to manage burnout, institutional support was severely lacking. Based on these findings, the study underscores the need for legal and institutional frameworks to support teachers’ psychological recovery and protect their professional rights in the face of parental complaints.

본 연구는 학부모 민원을 경험한 초등교사의 소진에 대해 심층적으로 탐색하고, 이를 토대로 교사 지원 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 학부모 민원으로 소진을 경험한 초등교사 20명을 연구참여자로 선정하였고, 포토보이스 연구방법을 적용하여 연구참여자로부터 사진 및 기술 자료 등을 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 주요 주제로 ‘갑작스러운 민원과 마주하 기’, ‘버거워진 마음의 무게에 멈추어 서기’, ‘상처를 딛고 일어서기’, ‘오늘도 초등교사로 살 아가기’를 도출하였다. 학부모 민원은 교사들에게 심리적 부담과 정서적 고갈을 초래하며, 교 사 효능감 저하와 교육의 질 저하, 교직 이탈에 대한 생각 등으로 나타났다. 학부모 민원을 경험한 초등교사들은 소진을 극복하기 위해 개인적 치유 전략을 모색하고 있었으나, 이를 체 계적으로 지원할 제도는 매우 미비한 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 학부모 민원으로 인한 소진 경험 교사의 심리적 회복 및 교권 보호를 위한 법과 제 도적 기반 마련의 필요성을 조명하였다.
