This study aims to analyze the potential for linking animal education in elementary schools from the perspective of sustainable development education and to explore practice-oriented animal education strategies based on this analysis. To achieve this, first, the potential for connecting the environmental, social, and economic sustainability categories of sustainable development education with animal education was examined. Second, animal-related content in the 2022 revised elementary school curricula, including Practical Arts, Science, Social Studies, Moral Education, and Integrated(Right Life and Life for Wisdom)subjects, was analyzed. The analysis revealed that animal education in each subject was characterized by a fragmented reflection of the three sustainability categories. Therefore, this study restructured animal education strategies into scientific, technical, socio-cultural, environmental, and integrated approaches according to the objectives of animal education. These strategies suggest that animal education can develop into practical and meaningful learning through interdisciplinary connections, transcending the limitations of knowledge transmission centered on individual subjects.

이 연구는 지속가능발전교육 관점에서 초등학교 동물 교육의 연계 가능성을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으 로 실천 중심의 동물 교육 접근 전략을 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 첫째, 지속가능발전교육의 환경적·사회적·경제적 지속가능성 범주와 동물 교육 간의 연계 가능성을 검토하였다. 둘째, 2022 개 정 초등학교 실과, 과학, 사회, 도덕, 통합(바른 생활·슬기로운 생활) 교과를 대상으로 동물 관련 내용 을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 교과별 동물 교육은 세 가지 지속가능성 범주가 단편적으로 반영되는 특성 을 보였다. 이는 동물 교육이 교과 간 연계를 통한 실천적 학습이 필요함을 나타낸다. 따라서 이 연구 는 동물 교육의 목표에 따라 과학적 접근, 기술적 접근, 사회 문화적 접근, 환경적 접근, 통합적 접근 전략으로 재구성하였다. 이러한 전략은 동물 교육이 단일 교과 중심의 지식 전달을 넘어서 교과 간 연 계를 통해 실천적이고 의미 있는 학습으로 발전될 수 있음을 시사한다.
