This study aims to understand the challenges faced by itinerant professional school counselors and their coping experiences. To achieve this, in-depth interviews were conducted from October to December 2024 with eight current professional school counselors who have at least three years of experience in itinerant counseling and hold a Level 1 professional counseling teacher certification. The collected data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. Through this analysis, 47 formulated meanings were identified, leading to the derivation of 14 themes and 7 theme clusters. The challenges and coping experiences of itinerant professional school counselors were categorized into the following seven theme clusters “Itinerant professional school counselors are perceived as outsiders carrying their ‘bundle’ and experience alienation”, “being perceived as an outsider and experiencing alienation”, “Difficulty in adapting to bureaucratic systems”, “lack of awareness regarding the role of itinerant professional school counselors”, “ strong sense of vocation as a counselor”, “relief from accumulated difficulties only after work environment improvements”, “professional growth and maturation as a counselor”. Based on these findings, this study suggests directions for further research on counseling practices for itinerant professional school counselors.

본 연구에서는 순회상담을 하는 전문상담교사의 어려움 및 대처 경험을 이해하는데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 순회 상담 경력 3년 이상이고 1급 전문상담교사 자격증을 소지한 8명 의 현직 전문상담교사를 대상으로 2024년 10월부터 12월까지 심층적인 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였고 질적 연구방법인 Colaizzi 방법을 사용하였다. Colaizzi 방법를 통해 47개의 구성 의미를 발견하였고 14개의 주제, 7개의 주제군을 도출하였다. 순 회상담을 하는 전문상담교사의 어려움 및 대처 경험으로 ‘라포형 성과 상담개입 자체에 한계를 느낌’, ‘순회 전문상담교사를 보따 리 이방인으로 인식하고 소외됨’, ‘관료체계에 대한 부적응’, ‘순 회 전문상담교사에 대한 인식 부족’, ‘상담교사로서의 소명의식’, ‘직무환경이 개선된 후에야 쌓인 고충이 해소’, ‘상담교사로서의 성장과 성숙’의 7가지 주제군이 확인되었으며 위 결과들을 토대 로 순회상담을 하는 전문상담교사의 상담연구에 대한 방향을 제 시하였다.
