As a state-centered international organization, the United Nations has played an important role in maintaining international peace and security. However, due to recent wars, the UN is not fully performing its original role. This is because the UN has inherent limitations such as prioritizing national interests and being centered on powerful countries. There have been attempts at reform to overcome these structural limitations, but they have not led to substantial changes. In this regard, Rev. Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han proposed a reform plan that emphasized the role of religious leaders, which was a very original and insightful approach. However, this reform plan was not realized due to the narrow obsession with national interests and the realistic limitations of international politics. This study proposed the role of religion to supplement and strengthen the UN’s role of international peace and conflict resolution. First, it suggested that interreligious solidarity activities are necessary, and second, it suggested that a permanent organization should be organized within the UN to continue interreligious dialogue for peace.

유엔은 국가 중심의 국제기구로서 국제 평화와 안전을 유지하는 중요한 역할을 맡아왔다. 그러나 최근 잇따른 전쟁으로 인해 유엔은 본연의 역할을 충분히 수행하지 못하고 있다. 이는 유엔이 국가이익 우선주의와 강대국 중심 구조라는 본질적 한계를 지니고 있기 때문이다. 이러 한 구조적 한계를 극복하기 위한 개혁 시도도 있었으나, 실질적인 변화로 이어지지는 않았다. 이와 관련하여 문선명‧한학자 선생은 종교 지도자의 역할을 강조하는 개혁안을 제안했는데, 이는 독창적이고 통찰력 있는 접근이었다. 그러나 국가이익에 대한 편협한 집착과 국제정치의 현실주의적 한계로 인해 이 개혁안은 실현되지 못했다. 본 연구는 국제 평화와 분쟁 해결이라 는 유엔의 역할 보완과 강화를 위한 종교의 역할을 제안하였다. 첫째, 초종교적 연대 활동이 필 요하며, 둘째, 평화를 위한 종교 간 대화를 지속하기 위한 상설 기관이 유엔 내 조직될 필요가 있다는 것을 제언했다.
