Purpose: This study aimed to look at teachers' classroom management competence as one of the professional competencies of teachers and to explore how it affects students' adjustment to school life, as well as their grade level and developmental characteristics, in order to provide educational implications. Methods: To achieve this purpose, 289 students in grades 3-6 of elementary schools in Seoul were surveyed to measure their perceived classroom management competence and school adjustment through a questionnaire. The results were analyzed using simple and multiple regression analyses to determine how classroom management competence affects school adjustment. Results: The main findings were: First, classroom teachers' classroom management competencies had a static effect on students' overall adjustment to school. Second, among classroom management competencies in grades 3-6, relationship competencies were found to have a positive effect on school adjustment in general. Third, discipline competencies were found to have an effect on school adjustment in the middle grades of elementary school, but not in the upper grades. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, classroom management competencies of teachers should be viewed in terms of relationships, teaching, and discipline. In addition, classroom teachers need to demonstrate their classroom management competencies differently depending on the characteristics of each grade level, and teacher training institutions should provide curriculum to enhance classroom management competencies.

[연구목적] 본 연구는 담임교사의 학급관리 역량을 교사의 전문적 역량 중 하나로서 바라보고, 학생의 학교생활 적응과 더불어 학년 및 발달 특성에 따라서는 어떠한 영향을 미 치는지 탐구하여 교육적 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. [연구방법] 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 서울특별시 소재 초등학교 3-6학년 학생 289명을 대상으로 그들이 인식하는 담임교사의 학급관리 역량과 학교생활 적응도를 설문조 사를 통해 측정하였다. 측정한 결과는 단순 및 다중회귀분석을 통해 담임교사의 학 급관리 역량이 학교생활 적응에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 분석하였다. [연구결과] 주요 연구 결과는 첫째, 담임교사의 학급관리 역량은 학생의 학교생활 적응 전반에 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 초등학교 3-6학년에서 학급관리 역량 중 관계역량이 공통적으로 학교생활 적응에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 초등 학교 중학년에서는 훈육역량이 학교생활 적응에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 고학년에서는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. [결 론] 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 볼 때, 담임교사의 학급관리 역량을 관계, 교수, 훈육 측면을 모두 포괄하여 바라봐야 한다. 또한 담임교사는 학년군별 특성에 따라 학급 관리 역량을 다르게 발휘할 필요가 있으며, 교원 양성 기관에서는 학급관리 역량을 신장할 수 있는 교육과정을 마련해야 한다.
