The metaverse is a virtual world that combines the real world and virtual spaces through digital technology, and it has been widely utilized in the field of education due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with the pandemic subsiding, questions have arisen about whether the use of metaverse will continue to grow. Therefore, this study analyzes the changes in perceptions of the metaverse in the education sector before and after the relaxation of COVID-19 prevention policy (i.e., the lifting of the mask mandate). A total of 37,795 web documents were collected from Naver and MSN over six months before and after the relaxation period, and were analyzed through text mining, semantic network, and degree centrality analysis. The analysis results revealed that the metaverse primarily served to complement the limitations of remote learning in before period. However, after the relaxation of the prevention policy, the role of the metaverse is becoming a core element of education associated with technical support and development. Notably, the application of the metaverse is extended beyond school education to corporate training, highlighting its potential as a technological solution in crisis situations. Our findings underscore the need for concrete strategies to apply the metaverse to various educational systems and suggest that it can contribute to educational innovation beyond being a mere temporary trend.

메타버스는 디지털 기술을 통해 현실 세계와 가상 공간을 결합한 가상 세계로, 코로나19 팬데믹으로 인해 교육 분야에 접목되어 다양하게 활용되었다. 하지만, 코로나19 대유행이 지나면서 메타버스의 지속적인 활용도에 대한 의문이 제기되고 있다. 이에 따라, 본 연구는 코로나19로 인한 방역 수칙 완화(마스크 착용 의무 해제) 전후의 교육 분야에서의 메타버스에 관한 인식 변화를 분석하였다. Naver와 MSN으로부터 완화 시점 전후 각 6개월간, 총 37,795개의 웹문서를 수집하고, 이를 바탕으로 텍스트 마이닝, N-gram, 연결중심성, 의미연결망 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 초기에는 메타버스가 원격 학습의 한계를 보완하는 역할을 주로 보였으나, 방역 수칙 완화 이후 메타버스의 역할은 확장되어 기술적 지원 및 발전과 연관된 교육의 핵심 요소가 되었다. 특히, 메타버스의 적용 범위는 학교 교육을 넘어 기업 훈련으로까지 확장되어, 위기 상황에 기술적 해결책으로서의 잠재력이 부각되고 있다. 본 연구 결과는 메타버스를 다양한 교육체계에 적용하기 위한 구체적인 전략의 필요성을 강조하고, 단순한 일시적 유행을 넘어 교육혁신에 기여할 수 있는 이의 역할을 제안하였다.
