This study aims to explore the experience of operating a ‘relationship improvement program based on integrated art therapy’ for middle school teachers and its meaning. The research participants were three middle school teachers, and the narrative inquiry method was utilized to comprehensively and deeply understand their experiences and share them socioculturally. To this end, in-depth interview data as well as the researcher’s observation journal, teacher reports, and related materials were provided and used as analysis data. As a result of the study, it was possible to confirm the participants’ desire for new experiences and challenges in order to secure the meaning of their role as ‘teachers.’ This could be realized through the educational system called the free semester and a program that reflected the desires of teachers, and it could lead to new experiences of meeting individual students and the practice of ‘teachers’ otherness in the relationship between school, students, and teachers. It is expected that this study will serve as a foundation for providing the meaning of the experience of how the practical attitude of teachers, who are important human resources in the relationship with students, is connected to their personal lives and resonates with society.

본 연구는 중학교 교사의 ‘통합예술치료 기반 관계 개선 프로그램’ 운영 경험과 그 의미를 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 연구참여자는 중학교 교사 3명이며 이들의 경험을 총체적이고 심층적으로 이해함으로 사회문화적으로 공유하고자 내러티브 탐구 방법을 활용하였다. 이를 위해 심층 면담 자료뿐 아니라 연구자의 관찰일지 와 교사의 보고서 및 관련 자료들을 제공받아 분석 자료로 활용하였다. 연구 결과 ‘교사’로서 역할 의미를 확보하고자 연구참여자들의 새로운 경험과 도전에 대한 바람을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 자유학기라는 교육 제도와 교사의 욕구를 반영한 프로그램을 통해 실현될 수 있었으며 학생 개개인을 만나는 새로운 경험과 학교- 학생-교사의 관계 안에서‘교사’의 타자성 실천으로 이어질 수 있었다. 학생과의 관 계 안에서 중요 인적자원인 교사의 실천적 태도가 개인의 삶과 연결되어, 어떻게 사회에 공명하는지 그 경험 의미를 제공하는데 이 연구가 기초가 되기를 기대한다.
