(Purpose) The purpose of this study is to present care ethics as a major global ethical perspective and to revisit existing global citizenship education through the lens of care ethics to lay a broader foundation for a new educational direction. (Research methods) This study normatively examines how the key themes of global citizenship education—respect for humanity, recognition of diversity, and understanding of interconnectedness and interdependence—can be linked, understood, and approached in current education from the perspective of care ethics. (Findings) Based on the perspective of care ethics, human rights education, which focuses on the protection of rights and rational judgment, could pay more attention to respect for the humanity of the vulnerable; multicultural education, with its view of the parallel coexistence of cultures or assimilationism, could be a normative vehicle for embracing difference and diversity as social resources for communities, rather than discrimination and exclusion; and global education, which fosters an understanding of global interconnectedness and interdependence, could contribute to strengthening solidarity and trust among global citizens. (Conclusion and recommendations) Focusing on care ethics as the ethics of global citizenship, this study’s discussion would contribute to the development of future global citizens who respect universal humanity, embrace and acknowledge diversity and differences such as culture, ethnicity, and nationality, and understand that global issues and peoples are interconnected in specific contexts and at various levels so that they can be empathetic, solidaristic, and responsible.

(연구목적) 이 글의 목적은 돌봄윤리 관점을 주요한 하나의 글로벌 윤리 관점으로 제시하고, 돌봄윤리의 관점으 로 기존의 세계시민교육을 재조명하여 새로운 교육방향성의 더 넓은 토대를 다지기 위함이다. (연구방법) 이 글은 돌봄윤리를 기반으로 세계시민교육의 주요 주제인 ‘인간성의 존중,’ ‘다양성의 인정,’ ‘상호 연결성과 상호의존성의 이해’가 현재의 교육과정 및 내용 속에서 어떻게 연계되어 이해되고 접근될 수 있을지에 대해 규범적 분석(normative analysis)을 진행하였다. (연구결과) 돌봄윤리의 관점에 기초한다면, 권리보장과 합리적 판단에 치중하는 ‘인권교육’은 약자의 처지를 외 면하지 않는 인간성 존중에 보다 주목할 수 있을 것이고, 문화의 병립적 공존이나 동화주의적 시각을 갖는 ‘다문 화교육’은 차이와 다양성을 차별과 배제가 아닌 공동체의 자원으로 포용하는 규범적 매개가 될 수 있을 것이며, 전지구적 상호연결성과 상호의존성에 대한 이해를 다진 ‘국제이해교육’은 세계시민 간 연대와 신뢰를 보다 공고 히 하는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다. (결론 및 제언) 이 글의 논의는 세계시민의 윤리로서 돌봄에 주목함으로써 보편적인 인간성을 존중하면서도, 문 화･인종･국적 등의 다양성과 차이를 포용하고 인정하며, ‘나-너-우리-국민-세계시민’이 구체적인 맥락과 다양 한 층위에서 상호연결되어 있음을 이해하는, 그래서 함께 공감하고 연대하며 책임감을 갖는 미래세계시민을 기 르는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
