This study aimed to explore the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and anxiety and depression, focusing on the differences according to the valance of uncertain situations. A total of 361 college students completed a series of self-report questionnaires. We used the Mood and Anxiety Symptoms Questionnaire(MASQ) to measure both common and specific symptoms of depression and anxiety. Also, we used Scenarios and the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-Situation Specific to measure Intolerance of Uncertainty(IU) of two uncertain situations with valence differences. The correlation and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted, and the results are as follows. First, there were significant positive correlations among a common factor of depression and anxiety, a depression-specific factor, and an anxiety-specific factor. Second, both anxiety-specific and depression-specific factors continued to explain variances in IU of a situation that has negative valence when controlling for the common factor of anxiety and depression. Third, only the depression-specific factor continued to explain variances in IU of a situation that has positive valence when controlling for the common factor of anxiety and depression. Implications of the findings, limitations, and directions for future research are discussed.

본 연구에서는 긍정과 부정의 불확실한 상황에 따른 불확실성에 대한 인내력 부족(Intolerance of Uncertainty: IU)과 우울과 불안의 공통 요인, 불안 특정 요인, 우울 특정 요인 간의 관계를 탐색하고자 하였다. 이를 확인하기 위해 대학(원)생 361명을 대상으로 자기보고식 설문을 실 시하였다. 우울과 불안의 공통 요인과 개별 요인을 함께 측정하기 위해 기분 및 불안 증상 질문지(MASQ)가 사용되었으며, 긍정과 부정의 불확실한 상황에 대한 인내력 부족의 정도 (IUS-SS)를 측정하였다. 상관분석과 위계적 회귀분석을 실시한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우 울과 불안의 공통 요인, 불안 특정 요인, 우울 특정 요인, 상황의 정서가에 따른 IU 간에 유 의미한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 둘째, 우울과 불안의 공통 요인은 긍정적이거나 부정적으로 불확실한 상황 모두에 대한 IU를 설명하였다. 셋째, 불안 특정 요인과 우울 특정 요인 모두 공통 요인을 통제한 이후에도 부정적인 정서가를 내포한 불확실한 상황에 대한 IU를 추가로 설명하였다. 넷째, 긍정적인 정서가를 내포한 불확실한 상황에 대한 IU에 대해서는 공통 요 인을 통제한 이후, 우울 특정 요인만이 추가적인 설명을 제공하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으 로 본 연구가 가지는 임상적 시사점과 한계에 대해서 논의하고 후속 연구의 방향성을 제시 하였다.
