This study divided David's life into adolescence, youth, middle age, and old age according to Erikson's developmental stages, and attempted to reflect on the process of how David formed his narrative identity through each developmental stage. In particular, this study looked at how David's narrative identity is related to the image of David singing in the Psalms. In his youth, David was an insignificant and small shepherd, but through God's anointing, he confirmed and formed his identity as a child of God, a covenant people, and the king of Israel. This identity of David became the basis for his trust and loyalty to God until the end when he was being chased by Saul and was living in the wilderness. Also, this aspect of him is depicted in Psalms 57 as a narrative identity in which he praises and speaks to God even during suffering. But when David lost the narrative, he sinned, and his life became fragmented. When he began to sing again in Psalms 51, confessing and talking about his sins, he was able to experience God's restoration in his stagnation and to regain his narrative identity. At the end of his life, David looks back on his life and once again expresses gratitudes to God. David's identity discussed in Psalms 18 no longer remains his own personal identity, but expands his identity as a covenant people to reflect the God of all Israel and to the Messiah. David's narrative identity has significant implications for us today as well. In a fiercely competitive society, we are forced to live with a false identity that has been disguised and inflated to promote ourselves. By reclaiming our true narrative of life, we can find direction on where we came from, where we are, and where we are going, and find our own identity before God. We will realize our true self and gain the courage to live life meaningfully.
