This study aims to explore the work values of elementary school students in the early stages of career development. A total of 304 students in fifth and sixth grades from metropolitan areas of South Korea answered a questionnaire asking about three jobs they wanted, three jobs they did not want, and their reasons. The data were analyzed through a consensual qualitative research-modified method. The participants were classified into eight categories and 21 domains for the jobs they wanted and seven categories and 15 domains for the jobs they did not want. The categories for the jobs they wanted were recognition, contribution, ability, relationship, money, stability, interest, and ease. The categories of safety and health, contribution, ability, money, stability, interest, and ease were identified for the jobs they did not want. The implications of the results for career education, career counseling, and future research were discussed.

이 연구는 진로발달에 초기 단계에 있는 초등학생들이 앞으로 가지고 싶은 직업과 가지고 싶지 않은 직업에 대해 가지는 직업가치에 대해 탐색하여, 초등학생의 진로 선택의 기준이 되 는 직업가치를 이해하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 수도권 초등학교에 재학 중인 5, 6학년 304명 을 대상으로 갖고 싶은 직업과 갖고 싶지 않은 직업 각각 3가지와 그 이유를 적는 개방형 질문 지를 통해 자료를 수집하고, 수정된 합의적 질적 분석(CQR-M)의 절차에 따라 결과를 도출하 였다. 그 결과 초등학생이 가지고 싶은 직업에 대해 8개 범주와 21개의 영역이 도출되었고, 갖 고 싶지 않은 직업에 대해서는 7개의 범주와 15개의 영역으로 분류되었다. 갖고 싶은 직업에 대해서는 ‘인정’, ‘기여’, ‘능력’, ‘관계’, ‘돈’, ‘안정’, ‘흥미’, ‘수월함’의 범주가 확인되었고, 갖고 싶 지 않은 직업에 대해서는 ‘안전과 건강’, ‘기여’, ‘능력’, ‘돈’, ‘안정’, ‘흥미’, ‘수월함’의 범주를 확 인하였다. 다문화가정 초등학생과 일반가정 초등학생이 가지는 직업가치를 차이에서는 유의미 한 차이를 보이지는 않았다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 초등학교 진로교육과 진로상담에 주는 시 사점과 추후 연구 방향에 대해 논의하였다.
