Recovery and healing from psychological and emotional difficulties experienced by children during the COVID-19 pandemic is crucial. In this regard, Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education announced the Mind Education plan to help students recover and heal from various psychological and emotional difficulties after COVID-19 for the first time in Korea. This study aims to develop an operating model for the Mind Education semester, which will be implemented by Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education from the 2025 school year. To this end, the authors reviewed prior studies related to the development of new semester systems, and explored and selected factors that should be included in the operating model through focus group interviews (FGIs) with field experts (i.e., vice principals, head teachers, teachers) selected by the office of education. Based on the literature review and the FGI analyses, this study proposes a (a) macro-level operating model addressing essential elements that should be considered in common by the educational community related to the operation of the Mind Education semester and (b) a micro-level operating model focusing on practical curriculum plans in unit schools. The results of this study are expected to serve as a foundation for supporting the effective implementation of the Mind Education Semester.

코로나19의 확산과 유행 과정에서 초등학생들이 경험한 심리정서적 어려움의 회복과 치유는 매우 중요하다. 이와 관련 대구광역시교육청에서는 전국 최초로 코로나19 이후 초등학생들의 다양한 심리정서적 어려움을 스스로 회복하고 치유할 수 있는 교육적 개입으로서 마음교육 을 2023학년도부터 실시하고 있다. 본 연구는 마음교육과 관련하여 대구광역시교육청에서 2025학년도부터 본격적으로 시행하는 ‘마음학기제’의 운영 모델을 개발하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 새로운 학기제 도입과 관련된 선행연구를 분석하고, 마음교육을 위해 교 육청에서 선발된 현장 전문가(교감, 수석교사, 교사 등)들을 대상으로 한 포커스 그룹 인터뷰 (Focus Group Interview: FGI)) 등을 통해 마음학기제 운영 모델에 포함되어야 할 요소를 탐색, 선정하였다. 이를 토대로, 본 연구에서는 마음학기제 운영과 관련 교육공동체 모두가 공통적 으로 고려하여야 할 거시적 차원의 운영 모델과 단위학교에서의 실질적인 교육과정 연계방 안으로서 미시적 차원의 운영 모델을 제시하였다. 본 연구결과는 2025학년도부터 대구광역 시교육청에서 시도하는 마음학기제의 내실 있는 운영을 지원하는 출발점이 될 것으로 기대 한다.
