This study analyzes the development and meaning of kyehoe poetry (契會詩) in the Early Joseon Dynasty. Kyehoe poetry are hansi (poems in the Chinese style) based on kyehoe (契會), gatherings of literati. Kyehoe poetry contain images depicting kyehoe events and build the symbolic meaning of kyehoe through language. Kyehoe flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries, and kyehoe poetry was intensively produced during the Early Joseon Dynasty. Kyehoe from the Early Joseon Dynasty can be devided into private and governmental groups according to their nature. The kyehoe poetry of public governmental groups focuses on highlighting their collective identity and sense of camaraderie, while that of private literati groups focuses on revealing the taste for art at their gatherings. While this is typical of kyehoe poetry, narratives of private literati groups deviate from the customary narrative patterns of the period. In the 15th century, kyehoe poetry shows an optimistic view of society of the time as an idealized tranquility, while the 16th century shows a pessimistic attitude of depression and lamentation due to political rifts. Through these narratives, we can grasp the flow of social change during the Early Joseon Dynasty.

이 논문은 조선 전기 계회시(契會詩)를 대상으로 그 전개 양상과 의미를 분석한 것이다. 계회시는 문사들의 모임인 계회를 소재로 지은 한시 작품이다. 계회시는 ‘계회’라는 사건이 그려진 도상을 보고 계회의 상징의미를 언어로 구축한다. 조선 시대 계회는 15∼16세기에 성행하였고, 계회시 역시 조선 전기에 집중적으로 창작 되었다. 조선 전기 계회를 그 성격에 따라 개인과 관청 모임으로 나눌 수 있다. 공적인 관청 기관의 계회시는 공동의 정체성과 동료 의식을 부각하는 데 집중하고, 사적 인 개인 문사의 계회시는 해당 모임의 풍류와 풍취를 드러내는 데 주력한다. 이것 이 계회시의 전형성이지만, 개인 문사 모임을 서술할 때는 시대에 따라 관습화된 서술 패턴에서 벗어난 유형이 보인다. 15세기 계회시 작품에는 당대 사회를 이상 적인 태평성대로 바라보는 낙관적 시선이, 16세기 작품에는 정치적 균열로 인한 우울과 개탄의 비관적 태도가 드러나는 것이다. 이와 같은 계회시의 서술 양상을 통해 조선 전기에 사회적 변화의 흐름을 읽어낼 수 있다.
