Quintillian's 「Institutio Oratoria」is a representative rhetorical material in the early days of Rome's establishment, but it is also well known as an ancient Western educational book. Quintillian's education was aimed at training "good people who are good at speaking," but he put moral people before those who are good at speaking. Quintillian pursued education not only to cultivate speakers but also to promote humanity, which can be linked to Character education. Therefore, this paper examined Quintillian's theory by dividing it into objectives, contents, and methods. In addition, 「Institutio Oratoria」can be applied to modern education such as Narrative classes, Controversial education, Civic education, and Character education. Finally, it was discovered that Quintilian's educational ideas had moral educational implications.

퀸틸리아누스는 로마 제정 초기의 명망 있는 수사학자이자 교육자였 고, 그의 『연설가교육론』은 로마의 대표적인 수사학 교재이면서, 서 양 고대의 교육 고전으로 널리 알려져 있다. 퀸틸리아누스는 『연설가 교육론』에서 연설가를 양성하는 것에 그치지 않고 인간성을 고취시키 기 위한 교육을 추구하였다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 『연설가교육론』의 도덕교육적 성격을 교육목표, 교육내용, 교육방법에 대해 구체 적으로 살펴보고, 이를 현재 도덕교육에 적용할 수 있는 방안에 대해 모색하였다. 연구 결과,『연설가교육론』은 도덕과 시민교육과 인성교 육에 적용 가능하며, 도덕과 교수·학습방법 중 내러티브수업, 논쟁수업 에서 활용할 수 있다는 사실을 밝혔다. 결론적으로 본 논문에서는 퀸 틸리아누스의 교육 사상이 도덕교육적 함의가 있다는 점을 밝혔다.
