The purpose of this study is to explore the difficulties and coping behaviors of various life guidance experienced by elementary school homeroom teachers in the COVID-19 situation. To this end, three in-depth interviews were conducted with five elementary school teachers who worked as homeroom teachers for two years after the outbreak of COVID-19, and the transcribed interview data were analyzed in a qualitative approach through open coding and categorization. As a result of the study, the difficulties and coping behaviors of various life guidance experienced by the study participants in the COVID-19 situation were classified into 7 categories: ‘Difficulty of Building a relationships with students/parents’, ‘The start of life guidance is delayed’, ‘Blind spots appear where the teacher‘s influence does not reach’, ‘The dilemma between compliance with the quarantine policy and life guidance’, ‘Consuming life guidance due to differences in thinking with students/parents’, ‘Decline in students’ social skills’, and ‘Increased problems for teachers to solve’ were derived. Based on the results of this study, the significance and limitations of the study and suggestions for subsequent studies were discussed.

본 연구의 목적은 코로나19 상황에서 초등학교 담임교사가 경험한 다양한 생활지도의 어려 움과 이에 따른 대처 행동을 탐색하는 데 있다. 본 연구를 위해 코로나19 발생 이후 2년 동 안 대구광역시에 소재한 초등학교에서 담임교사로 근무한 5명을 대상으로 3차례 심층면담을 실시하였으며, 전사된 인터뷰자료를 개방코딩 및 범주화를 통한 질적 접근으로 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 코로나19 상황에서 연구참여자들이 경험한 생활지도의 어려움은 총 7개 범주군 (‘학생/학부모와 관계 맺기의 어려움’, ‘생활지도의 시작이 늦어짐’, ‘교사의 영향력이 미치지 못하는 사각지대가 나타남’, ‘방역방침의 준수와 생활지도 사이의 딜레마’, ‘학생/학부모와의 생각의 차이로 인한 소모적인 생활지도’, ‘학생들의 사회성 저하’, ‘교사가 해결해야 할 문제 가 늘어남’)으로 나타났다. 이와 관련 연구참여자들은 각각의 범주군에 해당하는 생활지도의 어려움별로 나름대로의 대처행동을 통해 학생들의 바람직한 성장을 돕고자 노력한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 바탕으로 연구의 의의와 제한점, 후속연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.
