This paper examines the special development of Japanese mystery novels. This is done by looking at the background and through the process of establishing the occupation-era mystery novels, from detective novels to mystery novels, as well as the winning works of Japan's Mystery Writers Association Award. For a comprehensive understanding of Japanese mysteries, it is essential to identify the continuity/discontinuity before and after the Second World War. In this paper, we looked at the sociocultural background of why the postwar mystery novel was reconstructed. There was a system called the Mystery Literature Award, and it was confirmed that it was not irrelevant to GHQ's occupation policy of mystery novels as a form of democratic literature.

본 논문은 일본을 대표하는 미스터리 문학상인 ‘일본추리작가협회상’의 수상작을 대상으로 점령기 ‘추리소설’이 정립되는 과정―탐정소설에서 추리소설로의 이행―에 초점을 두고 그 배경을 살펴봄으로써 일본 미스터리 소설의 특수한 전개 양상을 고찰하였다. 일본 미스터리 에 대한 포괄적인 이해를 위해서는 전전과 전후의 연속성/비연속성을 규명하는 작업이 꼭 필 요한다. 본 논문에서는 전후의 추리소설이 왜 재구축되었는지에 관한 사회 문화적 배경을 살 펴보았다. 거기에는 미스터리 문학상이라는 제도가 관여하고 있었고, 민주주의 문학으로서의 추리소설이라는 GHQ의 점령 정책과도 무관하지 않았음을 확인할 수 있었다.
